The hissing isn't silly loud, so that sounds as though all is well, and will see tomorrow if it's quieter once recirc is selected.

Yes, in hot sunshine all day with windows closed, and yes, it does cut on and off very frequently, the A/C fan will come on it short 5-10 second blasts after I have started the engine.

Interesting A/C system, not used to all this high tec Jap stuff!

Thank you all for opinions an ideas, much appreciated.

Matt
when the car is at standstill the condenser fan will kick in to lower the pressure and temperture and "condense" the refrigerant. Something that happens when the car is in motion so the fan is not needed.

it will hiss on startup but shouldnt be as bad after a while of running recirculated air

Must admit, didn't realise the bottles are weighed as such, I thought the gas got measured as it passed through the pipes / meters.

nope. correct practice is...

weigh the bottle before work is carried out.
"tare" or zero the scales when everything is hooked up and ready to go in.
weigh the correct weight of refrigerant into the system

remember some gas is lost in the hoses and gauge manifold.

i normally slightly overcharge a system depending on the length of hoses used to ensure the correct charge is in the system.

for instance..

2x hoses used, 1 from bottle to manifold and 1 from manifold to car each hose is 90cm... i would "overcharge" the system by around 40-50g MAX!!!

you might find that this could be part of the cause for removing the 300 odd grams. when gauges are connected and disconnected there is a minimal gas loss each time thus reducing the efficiency of the system.

Not saying this is the case on your car so dont take my word for it.

For such a small system its not recomended to connect gauges (apart from charging) also try to ensure the refrigerant is charged as a liquid not a vapour. You can find this by checking the botle details on whether it has a diptube fitted. if not...turn the bottle upside down
