There's been a bit of an advance on the XT Project, I picked up another one today, Ben From Cross Roads Face booked me the other day, asked me if I wanted an XT for Spares, well its Older than the black one but in far better condition.

So with the Help Of Si from API we collected it this morning, Unfortunately the head gaskets gone but fortunately the engine from the Black on is in good shape, so there's a result, the plan now is to get this one running and MOT'd, bring it along so that the Guys can appreciate what a great quirky car these were/are.

The Black one all be it a bit of a lost cause will still get the treatment and either be used as a mock up vehicle or will be built for power, if it becomes un viable to use it I will transfer all the running gear over to the better one.

Thanks to Si and David at API I’ve managed to borrow a fair few parts From Engine Casing to Gearbox housing all fitted perfect, without their help I wouldn’t have been able to move forward as quick as I have, I was hoping a classic front cross member would drop straight in but unfortunately its too wide, although it doesn’t really matter as the ej20 fits ok, it was just a thought that the wishbones would be better to use but I'm now going to make Rose Joint and adjustable rod wishbones for toe and camber.

Also the Newage gearbox mount although the positions from front to back are in line it is also wider, can get over this with cut and shut.

Anyway that’s it for the min, thread may slow a touch (not that its moved that quick) while I get this XT on the road, but it will be moving again, if I get attached to this one, I may even do the crazy thing and use the Black Widow as a donor car.

Sounds like the logical choice to rebuild this one instead? Especially since it's in a better running condition. Whatever you decide, don't give up on this project.

Dont suppose this new XT has a fubar'd gearbox but ok diff does it? Would be handy if for whatever reason it inspired you to split the box and diff from the black one. :-)

i say stick with the black widow set yourself the challenge of knowing how almost worthy of nothing the black one is, then standing back, smiling to yourself when you compare your before and after pictures to an almost impossible task! might be worth cutting some metal from the silver one and plating it to the black one

stunning project, going to be a rocket once its finished!

Scoobynelly, yep I think your right, even if it allows me to learn how to weld.

Took the rear axle out of the car on Saturday, I was surprised how easy everything was to remove all the nuts and bolt came loose with no problems, surprisingly heavy bit of kit, I would be interested in seeing if I can shave some weight of this also, the intension will be to replace all the bushes with poly, API to the rescue I hope, these aren’t going to be standard I’m sure.

A few colour suggestions for the running gear, they'll be going of for shot blast and powder coating sooner than later, may as well get them ready for the rebuild think it'll be back on its wheels sooner than I was thinking.

It'll be on the Rotisserie soon (thanks again to another Garage Sha @ Pole Position has kindly lent me his) I'm so thankful for how helpful people are.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Up on Timber, the shack is getting crowded, could have done with a double size area, that may be the mission for this week as well.

And its out.

Fair bit of work needed here.

And the Cross member, out ready for shot blast, its very rusted bud not holed so should be OK, recon im going to need additional tie bars to keep this from bending under load also may help with reducing body flex.
