Went to Bank Farm (10:00am) and their "car trailer" weighed in at 1000kgs unladen!!!!
So quickly decided that my Sportrak would die, and the train weight be so over it would make and American look Skinny!!

So after an hour or so phoning around I found that no-where in Swansea hires out a beaver tail or flatbed, so I phoned my mate with a Nissan Terrano and asked himwhat the weight it could tow, and the Vin said 2500kg Braked, 4k odd train weight.

So worst case scenario was I had to borrow the Terrano, so decided to borrow it, just incase. So went in and said that I had a tow vehicle and siad that I had one from them couple of years ago and it was a normal trailer. He said they sold theirs, so I said what about Carmarthen?? To which a quick phone call confirmed that Carmarthen did indeed have the 500kg trailer I was after originally, so took the Sportrak from Landore to Carmarthen, and got the trailer (around 12:40 by then).

Then weighed up my options I could either use my Sportrak or the Terrano 2.7TD, so made the adult decision of take the one with a working stereo (the Terrano), and left Swansea at 1pm, this messed up my timings majorly lol.

Got down there and tried to find the place, took over an hour to track down this farm, driving through single track lanes through colourfully named places like Farleigh Wallop.

And then got her on, had a good look over and she is near perfect underneath chassis wise, bits to be done are kick panels, and then the metal panel behind the grille, apart from that its fine from what time I have seen (exhaust is fudged lol).

Sounds like a mare of a day, at least you've got her now. In that last pic it looks like the whole body is sitting a few inches too far back!! It'll be nice to see some project pics once you get started.

Oh it was LOT's of fun.
Today now I removed it off the trailer, and pushed it up my drive with the jeep and started to rip out the old seats, and clean all the crap off and see what I have.

Anyone know how to get any info from this??

Pictures in reverse order.

Rightyho update time.

Finally got her sort of starting, well attempting to start.
It sounds like the starter solenoid has gone, so will have to pull it out and see.
Then clean out the Carbs.

Also started removing the purple paint to show the Yellow underneath, and removal of filler.

Be easier to strip the front end down to the chassis I would think exposing the bulkhead and it's potential horrors.

That is the plan now, as the engine is coming out, as I don`t think I could get it over the wings with the crane I have.
But touch wood the bulk head is in amazing condition, I've stripped down the dashboard side, and its spotless, and from what I`ve seen whilst underneath again its spotless. But will get it stripped down, rubbed back and a bit of preventative paintwork and then stone chip protection.

I want to find a new loom as mine has been hacked into, and would rather fit a new harness, as it won`t have any nasty shorts, or broken cables.

Then when the engine is out, I want to see what is what but initial signs are good.

Fair play JB you've been working hard. It looks like it comes apart fairly easily.

Yeah pretty straight forwards, I'm VERY surprised how well made the bits and bobs are tbh. Take the dashboard vent panel, has 4mm flat head screws holding it together, EVERY one came out no problems, yet newer cars I've had snap/thread/round off. Even German cars like Beetles which are amongst some circles are "extremely well made" don`t come apart this hassle free.

Originally Posted by Silver Scooby Sport

Tub is staying put, as it looks in pretty good nick, and the cross members underneath are all pretty good, and the chassis is superb.
My only issue is getting the Engine running, which is now throwing me, as I haven`t worked on Carbs for such a long time and then never SU`s so they are a bit of head work for me. Plus the Daft Landrover setup has the +ve from the battery ONLY going to the solenoid on the starter, so now as I've no power what so ever I can only guess my starter is naff, I don`t know if I can run another +ve to the alternator either like on newer cars.
Then there is the non driving issue, I've removed both half shafts and both are fine, and the previous owner said it was a diff issue, so I'm going to have to wait and see when its running (engine) what the gearbox and diffs do. Would be a major pain to get this all rebuilt only to have to remove the gearbox or diffs, as I don`t know what box it is (to replace it), and also I don`t know what axles they are (salisburys, or non). So time will tell.

I get up in the morning and look forwards to doing it, I haven`t been like this for years. EVERY car I've had since 17 I have done stuff as things have broken, and it's been a complete chore to do. But this has got my blood flowing again. Even my Impreza I had to basically rebuild, and that I could take or leave tbh, its only cos I needed it on the road I finally finished it. This I've only had since Monday, and I didn`t get it up my drive till Tuesday and its in this state by Thursday!!!

I just need some finances now so I can get the bits and bobs needed and it will be done, as long as something unexpected doesn't raise its ugly head with the engine/gearbox/diff.

Right update, after a power wash earlier and a wire brush to loosen off any crap, I covered the two side in Hammerite Under Body Seal with Waxoyl. This stuff is evil as it sticks to everything and takes days to dry. But will give some flexible protection, as it never goes completely hard, I may bolt on some tinware over the bulk head on some pegs, so it sits clear.

And also took this little starter off as it was jammed.
A bit of TLC and its now free again.

Not much of an update as I've been working 11-12 hour shifts, BUT.

I bought a Haynes manual, shame it doesn't cover the V8 though.

And I may have tracked down a hard roof for her, with 2 complete doors, dash, and a few other bits for not much money and may have the front bumper too.

Then going up Franco`s on Monday evening for some more parts he wants getting shot of, so hopefully now with a wiring diagram and cable colours I can finally get to the bottom of the Landy and get her running.
Then it will be choosing the best parts, and then putting her back together, sanding her back and then getting paint.

My pet hate, wiring!!!
Then get the engine running and sort any issues, and then see what/if she moves.
Then once she moves, its re assemble and then new exhaust and get ready for MOT.

After a few weeks of working 12 hour shifts and tbh crap weather I have been making some more purchases

And have started to get my head around the wiring, as I want to make it fit for purpose.

Crystal lights and new bowls.

Battery cut off switch, and two new 10 fuse fuse holders.

Clutch and brake return springs, fuel level sender.

Door latches.

New ignition key, and switch.

What I think I'll do with the fuse boxes.

Think that I'll fit the fuse boxes into the centre seat tool tray, with a cut off switch. I'll bypass the cut off switch with these circuits;
Hazard
12v outlet
Stereo

So I can leave the vehicle secure with the hazards / stereo on, and not have to worry about it being stolen.

Lol its one of these (as you already know!!).

Just don`t like the way the thermostat sensor has to get into the water system, it seems a very Heath Robinson way of doing things. You'd have thought that they would have made a hose adapter or something??
