Ooo, that's a big ask....that would also cost you a large portable fridge filled with a selection of premium beer and Weston's Vintage cider

When I first joined and had a browse, all I'd stumble across is bitching, arguments etc, so my first impressions of the site were pretty poor.

I also find it quite cliquey in places, I've tried to get involved in a few threads and just get totally blanked.

^^^There is a great deal more bitching, but thats usually down to one or two idiots that have the school playground mentality, as demonstrated in you recent thread, i just ignore most of it, as do a lot of people.

The second point i think is more of a killer for the site, people need to be engaged to feel welcome and like they are involved, but are quite often ignored or insulted, even if they do talk crap, it is the responsibility of the old guard to educate and guide the newcomers not slate and call them retards, even though most are.

There is a lack of anything new or interesting being posted lately, the marque is slowly dying out or being killed in the case of newer members cars.
There are no new performance subarus on the horizon either, give it a few years and all the old sheds will have been killed or stickered to death and the site will probably liven up again with real enthusiasts trying to keep the cars original and in good order.
this is what happened to rs owners club as i had an rs turbo for a number of years and it went from good posts when the cars were newer to general dross and abuse when the cars became 8 or so years old and on too good posts again when the cars started picking up in price due to becoming classics.
scoobynet is at the second stage at present.

I dont see any bitching ? Well not serious stuff anyway f1_fan knows I'm just winding him up and like wise back.

People have got to remember this is the Internet FFS , outside of SN believe it or not I have real friends where apple doesn't even get mentioned or the debate of the use of 'years'.

Subaru will never be on par with old school fast fords, they don't have half as much history, and never will. The only cars worth saving are the 22b's and maybe the p1. Don't get me wrong, I love scoobs and I can't wait to get back in the fold, but let's not get blinkered by the fact that they are just cheap rice rockets, that will just rust away and will be forgotten one day. I very much doubt that "classic" subarus will resurrect this forum in 10 years time.

Quite a few of us used to organise and play Counter Strike on here, but then we got told by the mods to **** off as somebody moaned about the number of threads. So we did.

https://www.scoobynet.com/computer-r...7138-cshq.html

That too died about 2-3 years ago when Buzz emigrated to Oz.

As someone else has said, people move on, but some of the draconian moderation in the past didn't help.

yes i didnt mean people will be here rebuilding old turbo 2000's,i meant the rarer and more sought after models.
but it is going through the tasteless modifying phase at the moment like fords did when people stuck the ford tiger rally graphics on them and three spoke alloys.

At least you have not fallen into that trap so kudos to you for that

Fair comment in some cases but in others they arrive, ask loads of questions about their dump valves, HID bulbs etc. and when they get given proper advice from a long stading member that isn't what they wnat to hear argue with them and call them an idiot.

That I guess is the problem with our marque's earliest examples falling into the sub £1k category.

Aside from all that though issues with the way the for sale section is run (as a virtual scammer's paradise in some cases) and the generally inconsistent moderation haven't helped the site in the last few years. All IMO of course and that is not meant as a dig at you Lisa, you know I have always found your moderation to be my kind of moderation... that of some of your cohorts however ... well you know the rest!
I think regarding newbies... I have in the past tried to put stickies in place to get around some of the problems (mainly lack of using the search/repeated questions), sadly we can't make people read them or follow the advice. As frustrating as that can be for all concerned, it just seems best to me, to try and educate as best as possible within threads in a pleasant manner, even if it just copying a link to a sticky with a smile, rather than getting things off to a bad start by sniping at people, and I don't mean you, just a general comment, as that can happen.

As for scammers, well, I have put my thoughts across about that, but at the end of the day, I don't run the site, so have no control, nor any other mods. I do take on board points raised by other mods/admin and site members regarding this, mine will stay as they are.

As for moderation, it's a difficult thing. I can be seen by you to mod in a fair way, by others I could be seen to be crap, and the same goes for the rest of the team. For everyone that likes the style of one, there will be somebody that doesn't. Yes there are rules in place, but we are all human and we will all interpret them differently to some extent, it doesn't necessarily mean one person is right or wrong, just different horses for different courses so to speak. I guess that is why the policy forum is a port of call, to shout at Stu to give his take/decision. As mods, we are here to do the best we can by the site, but as said, we are all only human and at times we'll get things wrong, so by no means are we above question. At the same token, the 'right' decision may be made, but be unpopular with some, like I said earlier, that will always be the case.

That was a very nice thing to say, and is appreciated.

We all have our strengths and weaknesses, mine seems to be, being a bit soft and fluffy. People can choose freely which category they put that in.

The rest of what you said, is pretty much the same wavelength as me.

Posts like this are great. Someone long standing, still happy and enjoying the place and you see SN quite like me. It's more than a car forum. I joined this site and at first, rarely posted, as it was my other half with the Subaru, I just tagged along. I only started posting after I met a few people and became pals at one of the Scooby Shootouts and they encouraged me to join in. For me, it's mainly been about some discussions and banter along the way and making more friends as time goes on, and I still see it like this now.

Scoobynet will last forever and it's been a big part of my life for 12 years now
At the moment many newbys are coming along asking about dump valves and fight back when we say they are the symbol of the chav
Always newbys aware given a hard time ,just the same as the apprentices at work who are told to get a rubber hammer ,left handed screwdriver and a long stand ,that's life and the newbys only get respect after a few hundred posts

Then we have out regular scoobynet inforcers ,spellcheck police and people that educate the lower classes of the wrongness of thier ways and try to put them on the correct path and will crucify them if they dont want trained
The classics are rusting away and disappearing fast and yes in the future we will have lots of posts of renovations not modifactions

Detailing is going to be big in the next couple of years with polish ,waxes etc
Has anyone just realised how big Detailing world is now ,it's massive

Great to ses PSlewis back and fireing on all cylinders and taking no prisoners and reeling them in for a good old bashing
Great reading and many other characters are moving into the top ten too

I don't think classics will every be 'classic'. They are just nasty Jap sheds now razzing about council estates.

There speaks a man who has recently sold his classic?

Seriously though and judging by the level of posting from some of the newbies in General I think you are probably right.

Yes I agree the chavs have taken over the classics
And want dump valves and stick on tat from halfrauds
But soon people like tubby tommy will destroy them with his wit
And humour and Gary will finish off the rest with his insurance
Premiums for dodgy areas then the classics will be left to people
Like me who will fetch them our clean and restored and use our
Modern hatches and BRZ for every day cars
Roll on midlife crises classics after the chavs , unwashed and people that
Don't listern at school go onto something else
