Mines manual. I read that there were loads of problems with auto boxes, (CRTs) or something like that.

Its a real shame as I like Mercedes as a marque.

Now my ipod dock is refusing to send a signal to the front right speaker and the multi CD player has completely stopped working. All on a very expensive Harman Kardon system.

These are not covered on the warranty.

Its a real shame as I like Mercedes as a marque.

Mercedes build quality was terrible between late ninties and 2007. The rock solid build of the 8o's and 90's was replaced by cars that were built by accountants rather than engineers and its common to see late 90's-early 2000's S class Mercs with rusty arches and dodgy electrics.

Until recently i had a mint 1995 SL500 which in terms of build quality was amazing. Although it was 17 years old and had 100,000 on the clock, everything worked perfectly- and theres. a hell of alot of electrics and motors for the hood etc. It was still on its original exhaust and cat as well.
I had a chance to compare it with a newer shape 2002 model and it made that car feel like a class below.

I know on the Mercedes owners club, they quite regularly advise anyone looking at certain recent models to get a 2007 onwards.

I know its a lot compared to the purchase price but buy this and it'll look like you spend 3 times that.

or more in keeping with the budget

Just thought I should update this. I took the lower dash out after locating the interactive ipod box (the one that link the steering wheel controls to the ipod) and noticed that it was loosely connected with a tiny wire and flimsy connector.

A wiggle to realign it later and I was getting full 5.1 again so a bit of a relief but why on earth would they use such cheap materials for such an expensive sound system? Surely we are talking around £2 per stereo to make a good connection. When you are spending £800 or so it just defies belief.

MMmmm, I remember looking at those when looking at the 3.0 Z4 and thinking how special they looked. Well out of my price range at the time though. Have any pics?

No. It's more amusing that this thread now bears nothing to do with the thread title.

Took my M3 up to Matt on Friday, his place is lush and his Z3 is awesome. No wonder you were trying to prise that off him.
When you went did you see he had a pot of Zymol Royale? £7,000+ of wax

Do Z4M's suffer any cracked floor pan issues? My M3 is in pieces now and two cracks found and welded, one was 12cm long. He said that's quite normal from the cars he's done.

very simple (or so I would have thought).

Surely the direction this thread has now taken (into some very nice Z4s I might add), a new thread should be started about Z4s (and their acquisition), as continuing in a Porsche thread in misleading for both cars.

FWIW I'm interested in both cars (as I'm sure many other readers are), but not in the same now wrongly-titled thread.

So right back at ya buddy

No they dont,or there isnt any reported cases...Hopefully they have learned there past mistakes...lol..

Back on topic just for SD555... The Z4M beats the 911 hands down in every aspect on the road.. maybe the 911 will be better on the track, but suspension is far to hard and crashy for normal road use..

See,i said 911 twice..

LOL!!

Out of interest, are you comparing the 996 to the Z4 or the 997? I guess a 997 would be a 06-comparable car.
The 996 seems to be a lot more focused with the uprated suspension.

And i guess the real comparison would be the BOxster with the Z4, not necessarily the 996? Different car?

The Z4 does look nice though

Dan (still the wrong thread though :P )

Looks nice mate.

Are these similar engine etc to the M3? If so 343bhp is going to be fun in something that size.

Yep...

Its a 343bhp so it goes like the clappers...

Dan...

Comparing it to a 996...... My comparison age for age should be 997 v Z4M like you say...

But im comparing £££££ v £££££.......2001 996 or 2006 Z4M... A 2006 997 is twice the price of a comparable mileage Z4M..

Unfortunatly no Boxster would come close to the BMW,its an unfair comparison.. Maybe a 3.0si is more equal ??

My friend has a 2002 3.2s and the Z4M just walks away from him..... We went to CPOP yesterday and had a little blast and he was stunned how the BMW left him for dead everywhere..

See.....We are still on Porsches
