Unlocking an iphone 3gs??

Is it just me or is the Iphone just a bit cack ?
I have have had 2... I got one when they originally came out and thought it was overpriced tat,now have a 3GS 16gb and its not much better..
I realise im a luddite,but i only use about 5% of whats on it.....Cant see the point at most of the other stuff..
