I do feel strongly about our involvement in all these various US led missons aroundthe globe since 9/11 and maybe I can be a little forthright and I will not hide the fact I am glad we have pulled the pin on this one for now regardless of the reasons behind those decisions by the main inidviduals involved as I think we canot get embroiled in another conflict that has no clear objective and for which the evidence for doing so is still sketchy!
If you don't like what I write ignore it, but I have as much right as you to post on this forum so kindly.... quit whining!
When you think about it, they are all politicians after all and the most important thing is never to do anything which might lose votes.
Achieving that is far more important to them than doing anything solely for the good the people of this country or any other for that matter. One's career is everything!
Me cynical? I prefer to say realistic.

Yes, but he's a politician... they are all like that or hadn't you noticed?
Lying, scheming, self serving pigs at the trough!
He played Cameron and won ... along the way I think it was the right decision, but made, as with most politicians, for at least partly the wrong reasons!
You might also do to ask why was Cameron so keen to get involved and I expect you won't find a solely altruistic answer to that one either!

After defeating Cameron on intervention he does a U turn and now telling the PM that we need to do something to help and not turn our backs on Syria
. This just highlights what I said before, that Miliband is the worst kind of career politician and a complete hypocrite. The only thing I can take from this is that we haven't gone headlong into another war.
Now thanks to Miliband the UK cannot effectively do a thing about Syria, though granted he's not completely to blame as Cameron was an idiot in putting himself in that position. Miliband has no interest in what was best for Britain and just wanted to oppose Cameron, as he always does, to bolster his own ailing leadership.

It appears the French don't trust Hollande regarding Syria.

Oh get over yourself. A decision like this over Iraq cost approx. 1 million civilian lives. Think about that rather than writing **** like the above!
You want to go to war, I don't for all the reasons I have written in perfectly good well articulated points in this thread. If you're going to continue to throw insults around rather than counter with discussion then I can do that too, but it's really rather unnecessary!

Look seriously you really need to calm down. It's not trolling to have a different opinion to you! Please try and understand that.

Oh the irony

Since it’s unlikely that we’ll ever find out who used the chemical weapons the obvious thing I can think of is that rather than try get some UN mandate signed off to bomb the place, how about one where Syria has to hand over its chemical weapons to Russia (or China), as I can’t imagine they are too keen for them to fall in to extremists hands any more than we are.
If Russia and/or China refused that one, then they are effectively saying its okay to use them, whilst handing them over puts them out of use. Probably far too simple, but seems like a good idea to me

Very astute
Now Assad has been saying that the "rebels" fired the chemical weapons so if that is the case - who knows - then presumably they have several well hidden caches of chemicals. Can't see them handing them over to the Russians?
Looks like Assad has finally realised that if he refuses to do anything then he is going to get the s,hit knocked out of him by USA, and other, forces.
Reminds me of the IRA agreement when they handed their weapons over for destruction. Well some anyway

But the US and the French have to realise that Iran are staunch allies of Syria and would help defend Syria if attacked, then Israel would kick off. This is a Syrian civil war, nothing to do with the West. The west should offer nothing more than humanitarian aid, the repercussions of getting drawn in to this war is far far greater than just a "regime change", the opposing countries are very powerful too.

There is absolutely no chance that Iran are going to start a shooting war with the US, not a chance.
They may covertly get their terrorist buddies in Lebanon and Gaza to to have a go though.
The biggest winner of the Wests failure to act will be Iran, Amercia showing weakness here is giving terrible signals.
Assuming you don't want Iran with Nucs

If America does attack, without UN or congressional agreement this will drive Iran to push ahead with it's nuclear programme as Obama and the West will have lost any hope coming to an agreement for them to stop their programme. Also it would signal the go ahead for the religious leaders, the hardliners and the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps to protect and support their ally and muslim neighbours, the Iranian politicians will have to follow or be sidelined. Iran's elite Quds Force unit was quoted that they will support Syria "to the end", quite what that means I'm not sure, but I don't think we should find out.

Ultimately I don't think that much is going to happen here, there is no appetite for military action, as never was. If Obama hadn't made his 'red-line' speech then we would of done nothing about this.
As a side note, if the West doesn't do something about Iran's nuclear programme, Israel will!
