Got snapped by one recently,(coming off a dual carriageway)notice of intention to prosecute came through in three days.Got offered speed awareness course and took that option,so a morning off work and £90 lighter but no points. We just have to be careful where we choose to enjoy the performance these cars offer.

[QUOTE=JPC500;10612064]How fast you were clocked ? did you have a choice of fixed penalty or awareness course?[/QUOTE
I was doing 49 in a 40 limit, yes they gave me the choice but fancied keeping my licence clean,so it was pay £90 and attend a speed awareness course not pay the fine £60 and 3 points. They informed me of the choice on the notice of intention to prosecute form which i recieved shortly after being trapped.

As above, even if it comes after 14 days, it doesn't necessarily mean that you've got off....
As above, it's the date stamp i.e. the PO's ink-pad stamp over the postage stamp (or indeed the printed date on a franking label), which should tell you if it was sent within 14 days of the date of the alleged offence. If it is, then I'd still seek 30mins free solicitors advice..... just in case there's still a way out. But it's unlikely there will be.
If it's stamped 15 days or more after the alleged offence, then you should by home and dry...

Eg If the nip was dated on the 13th day but arrived on the 15 the day then the nip is invalid and not enforceable. You will need to stand your ground in the face of police pressure who will lie to make you believe that the nip was correctly served. I suggest you go to www.pepipoo.com. and check the website for yourself

You should read the Road traffic 1988 and Road traffic offenders Act 1988. The nip must be "served" within 14 days.

There seems to be a bit of conjecture over this, as I've seen this debated many times, without no definite general consensus on what is correct. Unless, as you say, the CPS, police or whoever, have peddled the 'myth' in order to 'frighten' people (like me) into thinking it, so as to potentially gain more convictions.
If what you say is true though (and I'm not doubting it), then to re-visit maggie's Q; she'd(?) be off the hook.

The police and cps do and will pressure you, by lying. Yes most will just give in, but those who have stood their ground(see pepipoo cases re 14 day rule) have won. The police dont like it when the general public use the law to defend themselves against speeding

I successfully 'got off' a speeding conviction. To cut a long story short, I employed the services of a solicitor to draw up a detailed map of the road layout, etc in question, with a supporting statement in mitigation, etc, etc. (but it was more a damning of the complainant copper, than mitigation lol ).
As soon as the complainant copper at court saw this evidence he couldn't believe the lengths the defendant had gone to, and instructed the magistrates to simply throw out the case. He then pissed off with his tail firmly between his legs.
As you say, the NIP, or indeed any other means of prosecution, is all designed to 'frighten' the accused and try to make them 'give in' through self doubt.
It's all about knowledge at the end of the day....

Laser camera vans work in both directions, so can pick you off on both carriageways. They can work upto 1000metres but generally are used upto 400metres.
The nip must be served within 14 days from the date of alleged offence.
You can request a photo to help in identifying the driver.

Making yourself vanish for that period of time will not help you either. The dates run from time of offence to the date the notice was issued.
As for hand held, it makes no difference. All the police need is a time and place of offence, and the recorded speed by a Home office approved device.

We all know this is just a money spinning excercise. It's not about reducing casualties, making us all safer. It's about targets and money. Nothing else.

All's not quite lost just yet though. They now have 6 months from the date of offence to issue a court summons, unless they are giving a fixed penalty ticket. It will all depend on how busy CPS are as to whether they will bother or get the summons out in time. Fingers crossed.
