I agree - it's about real world driveability. The sc46 seems a good match to the capacity. EngineTuner have suggested it would give a very good 430/440 on my spec. The other's making around the 475 mark. Would I honestly miss the 30 bhp?

We are running 490bhp and full boost on MD321T billet and we hitting full boost(1.7bar) around 3600RPM on road,on V-power we are running 452bhp and there is difference

You would miss those 30bhp,really with 450bhp car feels still fast enough,but with 490bhp is different animal

I've got the t on my 05 sti think it's a bit laggy!!! I think I'm gonna have to get it swapped to billet....

Older T is laggy,but newer billet T is amazing turbo and spools amazingly

I have spent the last few days reading through the monster Scooby Clinic 'billet-better' thread to assist in decision making. The feedback from the users of the SC46 is outstanding and seems to be a good real world road biased turbo - great spool and delivery of power. Unless someone can give me a convincing (graph based?) argument to the contrary I think I'll go down this route.

Good graphs Jura, showing good spool. Many thanks. The SC46 would seem make close to that power on Vpower, perhaps a little less. I suspect the supporting mods will make a big difference.

This graph below from the 'billet better' (page 46) thread seems quite similar to yours - but I'm no expert at analysing these things. Plus from different cars on different days. It's a minefield! It may well come down to value for money too.

Jura, if you don't mind me asking, do you have your full list of supporting mods?

Supporting mods are really recommended and really i would say for good result,really important.

We are suspecting our limiting factor at the moment with this turbo are heads with better heads(which will flow more and we will gain on top end) we should be making around 500-520bhp,but this will confirm,when we will go with different heads


Our engine spec is bellow:

2.1 stroker with OE JDM AVCS WRX heads
840cc injectors with Fuel Lab FPR and Fuel Lab Billet Fuel Filter
Modified WRX CDF Parallel Fuel Rails
Braided Fuel lines with AN fittings
340LPH HRC Fuel Pump
Spec C Inlet manifold
MDX321T Billet turbo
3port Prodrive boost solenoid
RCM V7 Big cone
3"HKS Ti Cat Back Exhaust with Hayward and Scott downpipe
GT-Spec Headers with 3 bolt upipe
Custom hard inlet induction hose heatwrapped with DEI
Custom FMIC with painted IC pipework and heatwrapped with DEi Heatwrap(black)
Syvecs S6pnp ECU

Plus 2 years warranty on turbo count mostly in our case,because many companies give you 6 months(if you are buying Blouch turbo from USA) or 1 year warranty

If that becomes a deciding factor, the TT S206 Billet comes with a 2 year warranty too.
Graph below is a 2.1 equipped STi8, stock heads and cams.
Red lines Tesco 99 @ 1.5 bar flat, Blue lines Tesco99 with 20% meth @ 1.7 bar.

Agreed Martyn,we are want yours as you know,but this time we are been slightly limited and yours supplied graphs us impressed,mainly my brother

Great turbo,what you are done and really as i said on our spec are limiting factor heads

Not saying you can't afford to but do you have best of say 6-8k to in theory waste on a car. Friendly advice, sell it and buy one alesdy tuned and save thousands. You can always add your touch looks wise and up the power a little if its not quite there.

Best of luck whatever you choose to do

Horse has bolted and all that, as per your final post!

I did consider selling up and doing the old sti shuffle, but it's not as straight forwards as it seems. All my upgrades have been done at a point of renewal and the car has been very well looked after and well serviced. Better the devil you know. I really did not want someone else's project. Plus, finding a tastefully (and intelligently) done car is tricky, especially in wagon form, which I need from a practical standpoint.

I did look at RS4/6, AMG's, SRT8's, M5 etc etc, but chose to keep my car and do what we all enjoy doing - modifying it. Plus, modification was cheaper than getting into the aforementioned cars, with the exception of the SRT8.

It's not always a financial decision either. This car has been great to me and I want to keep it. The worst of all worlds is to get rid of a good car and get one that blows up with no come back. I'm doing it all with one tuner and feel very happy to pay for the peace of mind that this affords.

Some may be happy to buy an already modded car but I never have. At the end of this process I will have a very strong overall package with the support of good tuning house. Plus, how many of us have been guilty of 'wasting' money on our cars?

When it's all done and dusted, you can't take it with you. I have a feeling a year or so down the track I'll be very happy with my choice and I've already had a great experience dealing with Alan et al at Enginetuner.

Collection very soon once Alan has done a shakedown or two. Then the 1000 mile run in. Can't wait.

I too would like to go down this road with my blobeye wagon....currently 344/320 and want more power now...

Out of interest (and I don't expect you to post the exact cost) what sort of ball park figure would I be looking at? or am I best to speak to Alan?

It genuinely depends on what supporting mods you already have and what spec you require. I went for new pumps, injectors, FMIC, full exhaust and so on. If you want something along similar lines you are looking north of 10K, but less than 15K. But Alan is very knowledgeable and went with a final price and budget and he built it to suit. Give him a call or email - they are very good to deal with.

Now the running in begins. First oil change happened at 500 miles, then 1,000, at which point back to Enginetuner for Alkatec ECU and full map.

Yesterday I thought I'd treat the car to a full clay, wash, polish and wax so pic attached. Don't know about anyone else but I hate washing/waxing cars. Takes bloody ages. Although, the wax should last a while before topping up.



Looking forward to the final map and the fitment of the Toucan unit.

Enginetuner has done a great job - high quality fitment and service, really can't fault them.

Sounds like an awesome build, good choice imho regarding keeping what you know and taking it further, safe in the knowledge that it has been done right I'm planning to do this with my wagon as well, gradually building it up and getting it perfect for me. I too need the space and flexibility of the wagon, currently running 255/365 and very happy with it, but I'm sure it won't be too long before I'm looking for a bit more - and when I do, I want it done right, same way you've done it - the whole lot done by one highly respected tuner. I'm sure given what you've invested in the car both in terms of time, thought and cash, it will deliver reliability and performance. Good luck with it, and great write up

Very kind. I'm going to let it all settle for a year then my wife has insisted that I track it. Thruxton is just down the road, so we'll see. I agree about getting it right with a car that you know. The modification scene is full of all sorts and tastes and I wanted something reasonably subtle but well sorted and capable. I also did not want to engineer out of the car the element of usability. I've over-modded cars before and lived to regret it, so I wanted this to be just right, which Alan understood perfectly.

One element of the car I'm really pleased with is the exhaust system. Full 3" Jetex - subtle exit and rich exhaust note. Really good prices too. The six speed feels nicely 'snicky', although first and second seem short, but fourth feels very nice. No regrets on the built at all. Clutch is heavyish, but you expect that. Engine bay is great and the powder-coated intercooler pipes are excellent in function and appearance.

I'll post up the initial power charts as and when I get them - should be by mid-September.

Right, finally have the car!

Enginetuner have done the final mapping, after the running-in, on the new Alca Tek and installed the Toucan. The latter is a great peice of kit and gives real peace of mind.

Final dyno chart:



All as expected and the car feels incredibly torquey and very quick in every gear. Driveable around town and vivid when the throttle is buried. Subtle final appearance too. Love the jetex exhaust note too.

The overall package is one I'm very pleased with. Can wholeheartedly recommend Alan et al to anyone who is interested in a similar conversion.
