Which estate performance car?
Might be well worth a shout. Very much doubt you'll see a difference on normal roads and the black edition is the only one I can remember really shreading tyres.

Contary to popular belief it is also not the actual Lambo V10 under the bonnet either: http://www.evo.co.uk/carreviews/evoc...7/audi_s6.html
However the rs4 can beat it 0-60

Forester, is this the one you guys are talking about
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3641086.htm
Looks intresting, 4x4 sti engine. Is it the same engine and running gear as hawk sti? That could be my cup of tea with a few mods to get 400-500hp but dont like the blue prefer black or summat
M5, the cheapest one i found was £25k and the rest are £30k and up
The point is, you are letting what you might have seen on Top Gear or something make the decision for you. Drive one, see how it goes. Despite saying the cars can be lairy on the edge, people like them because they have a bit more to them than the dull, predictable Audi handling.
Forester will be a nice shout though, most tuneable!

C55 AMG would do it. only 5.5 rather than a 6.2 though.

Mercedes have a tendancy of putting too much power into to cars without thinking about the handling, apart from the black. So cannot set good times on track. But have all the luxurys i like. Do like the c class amg, but then again my budget is £20k

Yes mate that is the forester sti we are talking about. As you say a forged build and big turbo and away you go. Will me much cheaper on servicing and parts too. Shocked when I went from my impreza to a 51 plate 330 ci and the labour, parts costs are shocking let a lone if it was a proper M car too.
From what I know I don't think there is much difference, the later 06 sti runs with the avcs heads to. The cams maybe a little less aggressive but I'm not 100% on that. Also I have heard that the intercooler is not the same as on the impreza sti its smaller due to less room but again I'm not 100%.

What would parts and services be like at local garages
Does anyone on here have one id like some more feedback on this as im really thinking about it.
Is road tax cheaper for imports as ive never had an import
Will the speedo and mileage be changed to uk spec
Thanks
Nice little paragraph towards the bottom to sway your mind

There is also a video link with Vicky Henderson butler (think that's her name) from 5th gear giving one some stick on a track. Looks more than entertaining

One thing you will have to keep in mind is the handling will not be as sharp as the impreza as there is more weight above waist level so it will feel more top heavy if that makes sense. I had an older w reg stb and it was a very practical yet capable car and would have a 06 sti all day long. Always thought of a sleeper, forged it and as you say run near the 500 mark.

Any specialist such as API, scoobyclinic etc will be able to look after it and I would assume the cost would be the same as the impreza. Sure the imports get charged at the same rate as cars that miss the cut off so are not in the new tax scheme. Being an import they would have had the converter put in so will read mph etc.

Thought of replacing suspension with tiens as read aswell cos it still looks a bit too high for my liking and decat with milltek as a start and i would be very happy i think. But still weighing up all the options
Mate............The FSTi as others have said makes absolute sense!!!
Had mine just over a year now. Would not swap it for any RS4/M5 touring for the world!!!! One of the best all round cars on the road and you'll have pure exclusivity!! The look on people's faces after you've just owned them is priceless! I can honestly say you will not regret buying one. The problem is finding them! If your lucky enough to drop on a 55 plate the tax is about £260 but if it's later like mine then it's £460!! Still I love it!!
Might be a good idea to post on the Europe section of forester.org where mist FSTi guys can answer some of your questions more accurately. Good luck mate.

Yes mate. Mines a 2006! The last FSTi's were made between 2004-2007 with the facelift like mine happening in 2005.
With your budget of 20k you would get a really nice example! I payed £13.5k for mine with 34k on the clock. I'll get some pics up when I'm on the laptop tomorrow!

Now I can vouch for this as an amazing car
We hussled and tussled for many a mile on the last lakes run endo if February and I could not loose it for more then a few seconds
Whenever I though. I had it or the twistys a couple of seconds later it was right up kissing the greenwagons bumper
It fact I awarded it the car of the run
Great to see a picture on here as it haunted me for many a night this car
Respect to the highest for this amazing estate car ,handering was as good as any Impreza and we tested it to the limit in the Cumbria hills
Forrester STi
The ultimate estate car for those who want an Impreza bit need to carry a washing machine and 4 kids and all their clutter in the back
Forget the BMW and Audi
Forrester STi every time

There is a chap called James on the foresterorg selling the pre face lift in crystal grey, sure he is only after 7k for it. its not this one as i have pulled this from google but it looks the same. have been thinking about it myself ;-) leaves [plenty of money for a forged build

Don't get me wrong I'm sure the Forester STI is a very capable and refined car but to me it's just a bit too much in your face. My idea of a performance estate is one that looks, for the most part, like a normal estate car but goes like stink. The subtle give aways should be the multiple exhaust pipes, fat tyres, and V10 / AMG / whatever badges
That and it's got too much 4x4 type characteristics going for it, looks big and unweildy, and the tree hugging types will be tutting when you take it on the school run etc.

Second that think the later face lifted sti's where available in urban grey to which is a stunning colour
