Having owned an Elise i would agree that the VX220 Turbo is the car an Elise should have been - if you can get over the looks!

Didn't find mine that bad. The boot was big enough for the shopping (3 or 4 bags anyway), returned 34mpg and made plenty of BMW / Merc drivers look like idiots while they were stuck in the snow as i ambled past

MPG is surprisingly good wow. Checked out a e93 3 series m sport, disappointing. Thinking 2009 z4 now but obviously at doubles the original budget

If the budgets doubled, Porsche 996 Turbo.

Anyway, it says in the opening post, "looking to buy as soon as possible". At this rate you'll be able to get a 997 Turbo

Default and now for something completly different

a left field choice...

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3944836.htm

£8750, offer £8250 keep is till next summer and you can sell it for the same money..
Caterhams dont depreciate lower then 8k and the 1.4 engine is one of the better if not the best entry level engines, it has the optional LSD ans the listed other options look like a good spec.
Insurance will cost you under £350 (<300 if your over 30) a year (with a specialist insurer)
Bottom grade car road tax.. Mega cheap.
Buy a Car cover if you dont have a garage http://www.coverscars.co.uk Im on my 3rd cover after 12 years of out door parking.

and your on the road in probably the fastest and best handling point to point car you can get for under 9k.

if its a little hardcore.. well, the MX5 is a very good handling car and bomb proof engineering.

MX5 have bomb proof engineering for sure.......BUT they rust faster than a 70s Lancia
and not economical at all
I just sold my 04 1.8 67,000 1 owner and a full service history....... rust in the rear of the sills and arches......for the second time.....and that was my second one, but never again, not untill Mazda address their anti corrosion measures

Do the drains regularly and this does not happen. 92 K Plate on 59K miles, £2150 and it's rust free.
