I was at Little Waddington (Bracebridge Heath) on Sunday, visiting the in-laws. I mentioned the programme was on to the FIL, as we were talking about the book, mentioned above.
He was at Ascension, but wouldn't say doing what. I think he misses being on 51 sq. as he always glances over when we pass Waddington. He won't say what he did there. That'll go to his grave with him, no doubt.
Waddington looked so quiet as we drove by.

Quite an epic read, indeed.
Would have loved to see the program, too.

Yes they put a hole in the runway which could have been filled in!
Did it not occur to you that the Argentinians thought that since they were 8,000 miles away from Ascension Island that we would never be able to mount an aerial attack on the Falklands or Argentina for that reason? Are you incapable of realising that having been successfully attacked via the longest ever known armed bombing raid as well as having their radar destroyed by Harm missiles that it occurred to them they were not safe from aerial attack so they did not deploy their fighter attack aircraft from the airfield on the Falklands for that very reason? One of the things that helped us win that war.
Far from being some kind of "politicking" by the RAF as you said above, it was one of the most difficult aerial exercises ever carried out and that it was 100% successful, not only due to outstanding planning but because of the grit and determination of the aircraft crews which took part.
I really think that you would do well to consider more carefully before you come out with such ill thought rubbish which stems from your gross lack of knowledge.
It might save you from looking so foolish for a start.

As you are abroad I think you will need a bit of faffing via proxy servers that will hide the fact you are abroad. Never tried it myself but sure there are others that have messed about with it and got it to work.
