another thing i have noticed, when ever i put a driver on, after it has done it says installlation is compleat (warning occured during insterlation)

i disabled the AI in ccc and the game now works. i just had a coop match and it was fine with no crashing or errors.

is there anything bad from not haveing the ai on, or what does it do?

If A.I is off,you are running just one core from your GPU,something like you are have now just standard 4870,if its on you have 4870X2(two cores of your GPU)

Its not problem of your GPU,but seems is problem of games itself.If you have other games try with A.I on and off and from this you will know what working best for you(and without the BSOD)

could it be worth changing the gard to a single type version then, if so what would be on par/better than the 4870x2 card?

 

Ian 4870X2 is in some games on par with HD5870 and this main reason why people still love and use 4870X2.

Main problem of the 4870X2 is doesn't support DX11 and If you play a game that doesn't support CF or it scales poorly, you'll see huge gains with the newer GPU single card,plus power consumption of newer ATi cards is lot less than 4870X2

If you are looking to upgrade your GPU,i would go with HD6870

Difference between the 6870 and 4870X2 in performance is negligible

im gueesing the performance with the 6870 be alot better over my 4870x2 with i have the A.I disabled so only running half the card?

 

Really Ian try other games with A.I on and off and from this i would decide if its worth go for newer graphic card or no

Yes 6870 card will be better in games where CF(CrossFire) doesn't work well

Before buying new card,try different games(CoD,Dirt etc.) with different setting and from this you will know if its worth.

just got a 6870, and had the same errror on install like you had .. i recon itsthe rdivers that have an issue ...
however im loving the card so far ... BUT now need a psu .. damn computers, my 530 watt is a bit too close for comfort..

 

i got a new psu the other day as my 500w zalman died. i went for a ocz zs 750w

 

the GTX 480 looks like a nice card. but i better start saving

 

Is good card,but for lot less you can have HD6970 which performance wise is same or similar

About the new nVidia fermi series GTX570/580 are good too and cost sometimes less than GTX480

hi jura, just to let you know, i installed cod 3 and it does the same as bf3 :-(

 

i have installed 11.10 as the 12. versions would not work, now i have ccc working

What i know and what i've read problem is second core of your graphics card doesn't switch to 3d clock and this cause BSOD

Plus i would have look for AMD Catalyst Application Profiles which can help you improve performance in some games which doesn't support the CrossFire

do i just keep going into safe mode, use driver sweeper and keep trying different adm caps until i find one that works?

i have seen on youtube people blaying bf3 with card with no problems at all, so there must be a way around it somehow

These people most use for CrossFire and BF3

You don't need use again Driver sweeper,this is only profile for your card,try them and you will see if help

have just tried them 3 jura, but still get the bsod :-(

 

Really looking like this game don't like the CrossFire or 4870X2,which is for me really strange

on the fps im getting around 30 (fraps) playing the 1st co-op mission

 

On what settings: Medium,High or Very High?

And what resolution?

i had them on the auto setting, think the 1st one was ultra, and the rest were high

 

But still good FPS you have on 1 core,you have enabled V-sync?

v-sync? dont think so

 

on a 64 player big map it is around 20 fps
