No it won't stop Torrents, your ISP will do that, probably later this year.

Look Pirates, you've had a good run, it's time to go back to paying for your entertainment now. Cancel your £60 a month Sky subscription, 100mb internet connection and go outside.

You really think that will happen? I'll be surprised as its not their responsibility to put a stop to it.

Think someone like Virgin Media will let it happen if everyone else stops it, if not just for the extra business that they might still get.

I know they bottle neck your speeds if you spend quite a while downloading but you really have to hammer it for that to happen.

Yes. If not this year then next. You can't stop torrents but you can take them off a network and more and more will do this driving Piracy underground and eventually more expensive to access than legal media.

I still don't get why people need to see things in their home before they're released, bragging rights? I must be at least two years behind on Films and TV shows, Freeview is great when you're that far behind.

Get ready to pay or wait.

Sorry, kind of missed my point - iCloud will turn all my illegal stuff into legal legitmate stuff for a small fee far less that what it would have cost me to purchase. OK, I may have jumped the gun with films, but I can see the future.

I actually applaud Apple for actually trying to get the industry to back down and compromise on what is an unwinnable situation, as the alternative is to shut down the internet via masses of American legislation.

Sorry, but that is just sensationalist bollocks. Sure SOPA was a bit of a sledgehammer to crack a nut and was too all encompassing, but if just the mere threat of it results in better enforcement of the existing legislation and the shutting down of these pirate file sharing havens then that has to be good news in my book.

Maybe that was the plan all along.

No doubt about it, throw in a ridiculous proposal, let the pirates go wild then remove some silly bits - DNS Blocking - and nail them anyway. Everyone's happy.

so there's going to be millions who think there's no point in spending lots on a fast BB anymore as that's one of the main reasons to have it.

The one good thing that has come out of piracy is it brought the retail price down to a more realistic level. The thinking will I download a poor quality film or spend the price of a curry and a pint on a DVD and enjoy the full experience.

I remember 1982 my dad going in to Video1 the first video shop in Glasgow and buying a Sharp VHS player was about £700 and bought One flew over the cuckoo's nest on VHS for £40 his brand new mk3 Ford Escort was about £5000 That would make a DVD in today’s money about £150 and the player £2500.

You can go in to HMV and buy a chart CD cheaper than it was in the early 90's when they were no CD-Rewriters about funny that.

The pirates have all these little anecdotes to try and justify their dishonesty like their favourite where they justify stealing something as they wouldn't have bought it anyway

Not a pirate have more than the price of my Subaru when bought new in vinyl tape cd software and DVD but look at Apple with its monopolising of the the brand, price fixing for one.

When you sell a lot of something or when no one is buying something the price goes down. Now you could say that piracy is the reason sales went down, but they weren't going to buy anyhow.

The sad thing is that everything is de-valued, I have more media than ever and watch and listen to less. When I do its a old film or somthing i ripped from cd or vinyl. The last 2 CD i bought were Amy Winehouse Lioness and Rebbeca Fergusons Heaven. The latter artist I am going to her concert next month, as I prefer to do and where any real artist make their money.

Most new films and CDs should be availible in Poundland "all they are worth". Then piracy would be a thing of the past.

Also, when a new format comes out. There are R&D costs to recover and manufacturing prices may be high to start to cover new technology and machinery bought to make them. Then there's the premium you pay for the "latest and greatest" format, quality of a blu-ray movie is generally better then the same film on dvd, so they charge more. Then there's the tech to make the movies in the first place, all that needs paying for. And the companies need to make a profit on top.

What annoys me right now is, the amount of cd and films. Where they get released then 6 months later there's a deluxe version.

Cee-lo green for example brings his album out then 6 months later releases another but with a additional 5 tracks.

Then there's films like avatar with about 3 different versions

cat amongst the pigeons but...
Theft is defined as when a person dishonestly appropriates property belonging to another with the intention of permanently depriving the other of it.
Personally i don't think that applies to copyright infringement.

There is a lot of power in words and using the wrong ones effects peoples emotional responses. So it is important to be accurate. Calling it theft is misleading in my book.

Plus all you lot backing SOPA have failed to acknowledge that it will make most forums unmanageable because they can't control everything their users post so most will shutdown.

You can argue semantics all you like, what's happening is Stealing and Stealing and Theft are one and the same.

I'm still waiting for whatever contract Panasonic have to end so I can buy Avatar in 3D. Not willing to pay £40 for a promo version off eBay.
Also waiting for Transformers, normal blu-ray is out, but got to wait for 3D. Why can they not release that at the same time?

Oh and Cee Lo Green's s**t, why would anyone want an extra 5 tracks? Or is that version cheaper?

Cee-lo was a example I seen recently.

For £15-£20 you should get 3D with bluray 2D its a total rip off.

lol ISP's blocking torrents won't stop the pirates. The only way of stopping piracy is for a complete lockdown on everything, i.e no access to the internet or no internet at all. Which obviously will never happen.

Who said it would stop the pirates? It'll stop torrents, more's the shame as I use them legally a couple of times a year.

See I just buy stuff as thanks to piracy the prices of music and films are now sensible gone are the days when a CD was £18-20. If it was not for the pirates then a CD would be £30 now. the negative aspect is that at £30 people would go back to treasuring every song and really getting to know and love an album rather than listen to their favourite few tracks. Record companies have cottoned on to this and I guess thats why there are so few good albums around now. As for films 90% of films i see now are ****.
