Thanks Braintrauma,
I'm loving the gold manifold, i think Prodriverrules has the same on his. I'm just waiting on some bits to come from ebay. A larger, coarser grain sanding wheel to save the batteries on the drill and a polishing kit.

Little grinding wheel to start getting into some edges...

Getting there slowly slowly, back at work now as well so time's limited in the mornings.

There's one in this set but I'm not really cleaning, just smoothing over some of the awful casting marks and scratches that have built up over the years and getting into the many many nook's and cranny's.

Finally found a little time to get back to the manifold. I ended up filing away at most of the surfaces i could get to as the pitting was just so deep. Now i'm reaching the sanding stage with 40 grain starting to get into those little nooks, and you never realise just how many there are.

This is definately not a few hour job!

Starting to get me down now. I was approached about a 2.1 engine a week or so ago, and started to put my egg's in that basket only to be text yesterday that the engine will remain in the car .

Little bit more, this time with the wheel and coarser block.

And another addition to be over-hauled at some point...

Ok sick and tired of this now, wish i'd never started it. I'd sanded it to a completely smooth surface and the mops just put deep scratches back in.

And that will do...I'm sick of the sight of it lol. Maybe i'll look at it again some time in the future.

haha this reminds me so much of me... gets obsessive and then when your finally at a point where your happy with it, you think i'll just go a bit more and end up making it worse lol. In fairness tho mate it looks cracking. Just keep on with the metal polish and it'll be spot on

Yup, I want perfection! This in all honesty has done my head right in. Although i took a pic of it sitting above my manifold in situe and it does look fairly pretty... may have to whack it on Ebay....

This project is me going back over old ground a little bit. I used to polish mountain bike bits as a teenager by hand and later on motorbike bits with a mop. I bought the CDB with the inlet manifold on it for £200, i've since sold the manifold and coil packs for £120.

I'm sick of the sight of the 4 pots now lol, I'll update at some point.
Believe it or not the buyer has complained i didn't do the bottom of the legs to the same quality as the top. I've explained i didn't as these weren't visible once fitted but that doesn't stop the guy wanting a refund

I've got the same manifold on my car if needed, although I should be going V3 heads so I'll probably need a V3 manifold (luckily I'm polishing one atm )

I'm impatient. Until i have the full amount for Piston's/Rods/Crank and then Rebore/gaskets/new block bolts etc then i have nothing else to do. I need 4 pots, so why not get them now?.
And this is about a learning process. I know how to polish an inlet manifold, pretty soon I'll know how to strip and rebuild 4 pots.

I'm also polishing a V3 manifold at the moment, and I've been asked to do the same for another member on a V5/V6.

If others on here who have taken on rather large projects are like me at all then i wouldn't be surprised if they've had to do several mini-projects to keep their brains ticking whilst the main one is on the back burner.

£736 sent to RealStreetPerformance last night.
Crower Rods
92.5 Wiseco pistons and rings
ARP Head Studs.

The Mrs had to click send, i just couldn't do it. Through out the last few months i've been PM'ing a member for advice on different things. In the end he priced up a short motor build and the offer is just too tempting....

Iv just started a self build (only up to the covered in gunk n oil stage) Nice price for the internals are you using the original crank and keeping it 2ltr.
iv been told that v1 to v3 inlet manifold patterns are the same .so if that's right you could use the v1inlet on the v3 heads .which would cut out problems with matching up to your loom.

You'd be best off buying piston's/rod's from realstreetperformance.com as their prices are far better than over here. Crank will be a 257 from WMS -
http://stores.ebay.co.uk/wms-deals4u...id=p4340.l2563

I've heard the same about V1-V3 manifolds and i've still got a V1 on my original engine so that's still an option. I'm taking a lot of time over the V3 manifold though so we'll see when i get there....

I have looked into buying from the states but, im gonna wait until iv got the funds together later in the year (mabey early next if i don't stop getting side tracked buying other scooby shiney stuff lol) Until then im gonna start refurbing the heads porting, polishing ,valve stems etc .... to keep cost down and my hands busy whilst saving . As for the inlets im putting a v1sti long engine into a MY 97 (v3)UK turbo so im going to use a v3 inlet/ crossover pipe to keep the wiring simples .if you need a spare v1 inlet ill swap ya for that shiney v3 one all the best of luck bud and iv bookmarked your thread for reference

Lol, sounds far too familiar. I keep seeing things and thinking "ooh" and with money in paypal its very hard to resist when you see a bargain. And you know damn well once you're at the stage of needing part x, you either won't find any for sale or they will be far higher priced than one's you are seeing now. Its good you have sub-projects in mind, like i've said it would be very easy to lose faith - I've taken 6 months to save the money needed for Pistons/Rods, was i too ambitious to think this could be up and running at the start of 2013?.
I've also been very very close to walking out on my job recently, that would screw things up big time.

And then there's project creep. I'm already thinking this engine will be far too good for my old heap, maybe a shell for part 2?

That's my biggest fear. They've put a value of $100 on it so we'll see, looks like they have arrived at Donnington, ETA tomorrow!
