They both have their merits.... the Androis OS is ok as an OS but being as it has to fit a million devices it never really performs as well as it should! Most andorid devices are running huge spec hardware underneath them and they still perform no faster than the lesser spec'd Apple products.
It's like Windows and MAC OS, Windows will fit any system... Eventually once you have faffed and fiddled to make it work, MAC OS just works and that is the beauty of the Apple, Everythingjust works and it works well.
I own an Iphone and to be honest I do really like it, it gets all it's updates and as I say, everything works all the time. The androids are a bit clunky at times.
Apple release IOS updates that are compatible with the last 3 Gen of phone (normally) where are Android release an OS update that might be compatible with your phone, it might not, then you have to wait for service carriers to stick their nose in to it, riddle it with crap and then it runs like poo.... The android does have a good custom ROM following though.
Like I say Apple Products just work and will be updated regularly, it's like a perfect fit trainer, the android you'll be lucky if you get updates and when you do it's not specifically for your product.
As it's been said before, which ever phone you plup for now is the OS you will stay with forever probably........ I don't intened to buy any other phone than an iPhone now and that's just because I am used to the OS, good support from Apple and zero agro.

Honest opinion, went from a samsung pixon 8800 to an iphone 3GS, yes a big jump in what the handset could do, the pixon made better calls and didnt suffer issues that the 3GS did (dropping calls for instance or sticking on 3g then not swapping to 2g/edge, its still an issue apple have not corrected since the iphone 3 came out and its still complained about alot on the apple forums).
I then went from my htc brick works phone to an apple iphone 4, vast improvement (not hard from that phone ) but im so resticted and it suffers issues that have not been fixed from the 3gs.
Software wise, apple OS is ok, its far from perfect but it only has to run on 3 or 4 different types of devices, and the older your device, the more you notice the lag as the OS surpasses what the device is capable of processing (this counts for every OS ive seen, windows, ios or android).
OS's like windows and Android have to fit alot of hands in the same glove, making it a snug fit is very hard to do, the point is, that it actually runs on so many different designs, that in itself is great programming, its better than just being able to run on one type or a very limited hardware build as you have to adapt more, both have limitations, but the more open of the 2 has a greater area for improvement as its more adaptable due to its fexibility.
This is one of the reasons im going off Apple and have now an android phone (it works better than the 4 tbh but im still on ios 4 on that, its definately better than the 3gs and im on ios 5.0.1 on that).
In the end its what you want/like, but having owned apple for 2 years i feel relieved going to android, I no longer feel chained down, maybe more apple owners should try it (actually alot have )

The 4s has improved it, low light picture comparisons would be better for showing how much more light it can take in though

To be fair Jack I always give credit where it's due and the iPhone4S camera is on paper a big leap from the iPhone4 and that link just backs that up with a real world result. The point is not how it compares to it's predecessors, but how it compares to a compact and on that evidence it does rather well! Anyway it's your New Year's present from me

This thread has come out to be very interesting to read, actually; if you look under the unnecessary eyerolling, "Im right. you are wrong.", "mine is bigger than yours" and some not-required caustic jibes here n' there. This camera talk is quite a minefield. Carry on, geekozoids .

You need to catch up. It's nearly 5 years since Apple released the iPhone, in that time Android has been able to capture at least some of the magic. It's the Android geeks that are now on some evangelical march, amazed by the applications that Apple users have had for years and letting everyone know. Smartphones are so yesterday.

iPhone all the way mate.
Best phone I ever had :-)
Since I got my iPhone I bought a iPad 2 aswell and
I think it's amazing aswell.
Other phones are dull and boring compared to it.
I got gta 3 for iOS for £3 and am playing it on my iPhone
How cool is that

Ok, has anyone yet seen this news on iPhone 4S Siri?
http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2011...n_1176018.html
http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2011...n_1176018.html
A 12-year-old boy was called an "ugly tw*t" by an iPhone 4S. He was testing the smartphone in Tesco.
Apple's recently released handset boasts Siri, an intelligent software feature that answers questions.
However, when Charlie Le Quesne asked the phone 'how many people are in the world?', the mucky-mouthed mobile responded with "shut the f*ck up you ugly tw*t".
The child's mother complained to staff, who apologised and blamed the phone's profanity on pranksters who had tampered with the device's setup.
"The phone was a demo version and was low enough on the shelf for Charlie to have a go on it," said his mum.
"He asked it a simple question and we couldn't believe the filth it came out with. I thought I must be hearing things. So we asked again and the same four-letter stuff blared out. I asked for the manager and after staff heard it they agreed to unplug it."
A Tesco spokeperson said the company had launched an investigation into the incident.

I have noted when passing apple shops the grooming of potential customers starts at a very young age indeed , almost in nappies !
- but what you going to do , how much market share has been lost in the last 5 years ?

Market share although Its important it's also interesting. How about I let you have market share and I take margin instead. That way the government doesn't come in and break up my company as its a monopoly and I still get to be the richest company in the world. Competition isn't always a bad thing.

Well I've bought a sim free Galaxy S2, which i will use until the launch of the S3 or iPhone 5, it should be with me around the 5th/6th of January.
I must say I'm looking forward to having a play with the Android OS, does anyone know when the ICS firmware is being officially released? Plus any recommendations for protective cases / screen protectors and other accessories?
Now what to do with the iPhone 4?

i have a case by otterbox, could be worth buying a micro sd card as well
it isnt the slimest of cases, but it offers very good protection, but what sold it for me is that it has covers on the power, jack ports, as there can be dust at my work and i have ended up with it under the screen of a phone before (iphone)
get your self onto the XDA forum, and everything that you ever wanted to know about this phone will be on there somewhere.

im running a custom rom called 4 seasons. and it is very fast, smooth and stable. and the battery lasts alot longer as well!
