Just another excuse to increase the premium you mean...

If it wasn't for my Porsche brakes I would of written my car off earlier this year when a 300 year old woman pulled out infront of me.

I didn't say they only come out on high value claims, im saying they will on high value claims. Depends on the type of claim and how busy they are i woiuld think.

I'm insured with Moley, absolute gent, and a bargain too considering my mods.

BTW, need to send you a revised list Gary, I think the one you have is a little out of date...

I cant speak for other specialist insurers but this is certainly not something we would increase a premium for via our modified car schemes..

IMHO its never worth risking a potential claim being turned down because you thought you'd save a few quid on insurance premium by not declaring all your mods/history etc.
Gary M has 2 pages of mods on mine and still gave a most reasonable quote.

Another vote for Moley....my insurance went DOWN when I had my car rebuilt and a two page list of mods.

This year, when other insurances were going up and up, mine went up by a tiny amount, probably the rate of inflation.

Moley all the way.

Was your speed in excess of 100mph then? Surely, at "normal" speeds the limiting factor is tyre grip not brake efficiency.

*sigh*

after lots of chasing my insurance comapny up about it over the phone, never got any email follow up to emails they've sent, sending them the prodrive upgrade certificate etc, i've found out that i've just been shafted by bell for an additional £77.

what did i do to incur this extra change? was trying to get them to officially insure my car on the certificate etc as an RB5 Prodrive/WR Sport and not a bog standard RB5.

was told that "manufacturer installed optional extras" are covered free of charge but in the same breath i was told the £77 charge was due adding the parts of the WR Sport package onto the policy.. dumbfounded, i actually had to get the woman to repeat that incase i misheard as i was being told it was free but also they're charging me for covering those bits.

part of me wishes i never started that conversation with them and left it insured as a standard RB5.

Moley_WRX, i sure hope you can help me out come renewal time which'll be due in april..

Insurance policies are based on "absolute disclosure" If you don't declare, any claim can be legitimately declined.

ALWAYS declare mods, no matter how small, no ifs no buts, just DO IT. If you can't afford the increase in premium you shouldn' have got the mod!

If they shaft you, take your business to somewhere that won't.... Try Moley!

admiral are a pile of s**ts. called again to speak to someone else to clarify how they're swindling me out of this £77 charge.

they're charging me the priviledge of having the "mods" on my car/listed on my cover but they won't actually replace like for like.

so if my rear spoiler got damaged they wouldn't actually replace it with the same high level RB5 spoiler.. wtf!

Of course you have to pay extra for mods

Do you think the insurance are going to add them on for nothing ?
Administration is all extra work for someone and at a cost to the company .
If you don't want to pay extra don't modify it's simple

1, No, but if they do I would expect some justification. All to easily we are told "its a mod".
So what? Take my old Hawkeye R for example. It ended up costing more to insure than a WRX because I had WRX brakes on it and WRX alloys. There is no logic in this. It is still less desirable than a WRX and offers considerably less performance than a WRX so you would expect the premium to be somewhere in the middle, not just hiked up because its 'a mod'.

2, You mean 5 minutes tapping at a computer screen? Ok charge me £5 then, not a disproportionate £35+. Again another excuse to rip you off. It should all be part of the service with which you paid for at the beginning of the policy, yes dont expect it for nothing but why should people pay more than the cost of the time it takes for the company to do the work?

3, Again, I like many others, dont mind paying a fair rate but the thing is insurance companies often take the mick. I was quoted £450 for a 5cm long prodrive sticker put on the back of my car, so had the choice of cancelling my policy or doing without. We all love our cars which is why we belong to forums such as these, so depriving us of what is a petrol heads natural desire to add, improve and individualise our cars because the insurance companies just make up these prices because they can, is wrong.

When I swapped my Hawkeye for a different car every company quoted me around £100 less each month so it was fair to expect mine to give some sort of rebate. Yeah right with 2 months left until another no claims was earned it must have been their 'policy' to take advantage so they wanted an extra £79! So I cancelled it and took out another one.

It is law for people to take out a policy and not doing so would be wrong but when the insurance companies take the mick you can understand why a lot of people say 'stuff it' and you have this animosity towards them especially when it seems far easier to rip people off than it is to actually sort out what is causing these higher prices, i.e. false claims.

By the way I know the profit they make is relatively little and Im not talking about this, Im talking about the logic involved in declaring mods and the cause of the high premiums in the first place.
