lol this is my revenge to the neighbours for all their parties over the years. 9am drum practice on Boxing Day ?

I can see me and my mate using them more to be honest, but lets see, she might really get into it. Really loves her live music these days, so could be just the ticket.
Now to get some practise pads for them.

Well I wish I replied sooner now!

What kit have you bought? And how many pieces? I used to play before I moved away from my hometown and into a 2 bed house. There wasnt room to swing a cat, never mind fit in any drums

So where is the kit going to be living? In a soundproofed garage I assume? Lol!!

A good gift would be a gift certificate for some lessons. Find someone who will come to the house and show her the ropes. Beleive me, if she just uses them to 'make noise' she and anyone near by will soon get annoyed with the few rhythms she comes up with.

Has she played any instuments before? Drum music is pretty hard to read as its not like a violin or any string instrument that has a 6/8 strings and the notes that relate. depending on the size of the kit she has will depend very much on the type of music she can play along with (like I say, thats unless she is going to just make some noise along to her favourite songs).

I'm just a little jelous here.

Blimey all these questions lol.
As per other reply, its a Viking starter kit, 5 drums. It will live in the most remote room in the house, and wont bother me one bit lol.

Experience, none. Lessons, might happen if she is actually interested once the excitement is over.

lol not at all, just being realistic. I will give her the tools, and if the interest is good, then I will follow up with lessons.

We all have things we think we are interested in, doesnt always work out too well though. I can re-sell the drums, cant get refunds on the lessons once she has had them lol

Yes, I see what you are saying, but what I was trying to explain, is that without lessons or some tutorial of some kind, she probably will lose interest.
Like I said, there is only so much fun you can get out of randomly banging a drum with a stick.

I'm just going on experience.
I was 15 when I started. I spent 6 months just messing about, then I started having lessons at school. It made a huge difference. Given that I hated reading music, it certainly opened up a whole new experience.

She will prob join a band or something next, her cousins band maybe. Probably where she will get her lessons from now that I think about it.

Snazy, I agree with you on not turning this Xmas gift business into a project analysis. If your good lady really gets going with it, then only its worth investing into lessons. Many adult learners prefer to learn from their peers than being taught by professional tutors. A lecturer friend of mine bought himself a chello about 5 years ago. He hired a chello champion teen to teach him how to play it. No matter how hard my friend tried, he just didn't get it. Anyway, the chello fellow grandly stands in the corner of his living room now. It gets a bit of a treatment when my friend's stepson visits him. They both get drunk together and play the chello completely out of tune for hours, which is bleddy hilarious. The moral of the chello story is; see how it goes with the drums before you (or her) think of investing into the lessons.

Is it ???? You don't say that, Markjmd.
Anyway, chuck that dictionary this way and I will make sure to put my head in a way.
