Not really, we've now got some cast iron facts that show that in the area of video rendering the iPhone is a poor cousin to the superior Android phones. I think we're making progress.

On a slighty different note I was watching an old episode of Star Trek NG last night series 2 I think and Geordie LeForge was using a tablet that funnily enough looked almost identical to an iPad, now what came first Star Trek or the iPad?

Users don't care if you can't get your formats right, it's not their fault you were clinging to a sinking ship rather than training in how to best serve them. You only have yourself to blame.

LOL you can say what you like, the facts don't lie.

Android plays WMVs, Flash, all MP4s including H264 encodes.... Apple plays a smattering of MP4s if you're lucky.... hell some users (suckers I prefer to call them) can't even get content purchased via iTunes to play on their Apple device.

They're garbage in this respect and the only people who can't get their formats right are Apple. You'd be having a field day if the boot was on the other foot and Android was the system with such limited capability!

Apple are a f**king industry joke in this respect!!! Their marketing team deserve a medal for conning so many poor saps

Well for my own personal uses I find my new iPhone 4s to be much better than my previous phone which was an HTC Desire. The Desire was one of the very first offerings so I may have been a guinea pig. After the 2.2 upgrade it turned into the most god awful POS imaginable and in the end I complained so much my provider allowed me to cancel my contact 4 months early without penalty. I will also add that I have two daughters both with Desire HD's. One has just sold hers and upgraded to an iPhone 4s and the other is about to, both due to the volume of issues they have encountered with them. One example: they have both had it where the phone has suddenly lost all contacts, message history, the lot. We've had a few tantrums I can tell you.

As funny as these threads CAN be this one is turning into a hand bag fight with all the usual suspects lining up to try and out-troll each other.

These devices (as they are no longer mobile phones) are not the be all and end all of life as we know it, FFS does it really matter if one person prefers an Andoid unit to an Apple unit or vice versa.

My own current weapon of choice is an iPhone 4 but my next choice might be a Samsung Galaxy Nexus but if it isn't then so what? The world will still spin and we can all worry ourselves into an early grave about something more important...

And as for the blanket labelling of any users as 'saps' that is not really called for is it?

The point is CF that I am an innocent victim of Apple's meddling here. I couldn't personally give a toss for either IOS or Android, but my line of work means I have to cater for these devices and Apple have caused me a whole heap of problems in the last month or so with their take on standards support as they would laughably call it. Android just works... make of that what you want, but I know what I think!!!!

The saps comment is a bit of a needle and purely there in response to Jack's dismissiveness of my ability to create files of the right format which I assure you I know plenty about and atually have done finally... in some cases, judging by a quick Google, better than Apple themselves

Anyway enjioy your restrictive device!!!!

100% I crank out videos at a rate of knots and they play on all devices, I'm a mere amateur, but keeping up with the times helps.

Nope, because I've done it now... the point is until Apple killed off Flash and f**ked up their own H264 standards I didn't need to do it as Flash did it already and if people like you and Jack didn't blindly follow a tech company like it was a religion there would be some chance of them being held accountable for their crass stupidity!

Put your money where your mouth is then and give me a link to one. I will test it with pleasure If not then STFU!

P.S. In the unlikely event it works then I will challenge you to make it encode like that on the fly on a server.... doubt we'll be getting to that point though

Got an HTC Desire-Z here, only issue I have had is it not storing photos sometimes, never lost my contacts and tbh, even If I did, they are backed up, and can be retrieved worldwide with HTC Sense.

Not backing Flash because Apple was so far up its own Anus (Quicktime sh1te) was a massive cockup on Apples part, but more of a cockup by people who bought the early models that wouldn't work. The habitual copyrighting of standards that have been used for ever and a day (envelope to indicate email) in the hope they can class it as "IP" is a joke, I hope they get their head up their own anus so far they implode tbh, and now that ****** Jobs has gone, they probably will.

I picked up my old Nokia Communicator out of a box the other day, god I miss that phone, it was so user freindly, just lacks wifi sadly.

The new smartphones aren't a quantum leap from that, and they dont have anything like the battery life either.

And the reason why they decided to discontinue it? Hmmm, let's think about that for a minute ...

It still runs on Android, your argument is invalid.

Considering it has NEVER run on iOS how can Apple be responsible?

See that link Jack put up, well can I **** copy it with my Desire and I know for a fact it wouldn't play it anyway. It took me 10 seconds with the iPhone and it plays. Why's that then?

Sorry, we all have to stop mid-debate here while someone explains to you the meaning of 'discontinued'? How about you invest in a dictionary instead, or go away and google it in your own time?

Good video Jack, it worked a treat on my iPhone & iPad.

Mind you I'm not sure jumping out of a hot air balloon would be my idea of fun, did they have reserve parachutes?

No, you have to read the context above, it was claimed Apple killed flash, I'm merely putting the record straight.

You're either being deliberately obtuse here, or I'm wasting my time trying to explain this to you. I'll stay clear of your posts in future, on any matters computer-related.
