With a couple of basic mods it will more than fast enough for what I want, look better IMO and I still have around £2.5-3k in my pocket

The brakes on the scooby are comedy on any model, once you've driven something with a good set up, AKA 911, the stopping power on the scooby is questionable to say the least - but thats how they roll from the factory

Agreed it might need a tweak to suspension to firm it up a bit and I'm lashing on a set of wheels but even given these mods its still cheaper than an STi

Collected the beasty last night have the mapper in on Friday, going for a straight remap under his advice. Keeping it very standard looking and no MOT blues but with a nice sting in the tail ;-)

Considering wheels while using the tyres that are on it so if anybody hears of somebody selling 18' proline speedlines in grey give me shout

I will feed back Friday after the map that Duncan is doing
Am I correct in assuming that means you're having a standard WRX mapped without any mods???
Howcome you don't at least change the exhaust and up pipe first?

+1, exactly what I'd heard too.

Impressive torque differences in the 2.5 engines - that extra half a litre definitely counts from low down!

Discussed it with the remapper and he advised not to worry about it, it can be mapped to 270ish without removing parts. This is good for me as the dect system will fail the MOT so it means having to have it put back to standard before MOT, storage of parts, costs, hassle etc

The remap will get it going, if I think it still needs more and by more I mean a lot then I'm in to complete decat plus the other stuff suggested above and thats a different job to the one I'm doing. If I'm going for a lot more power I will need to be considering brakes, suspension etc and it might be at that point the STi is a better place to start.

For now I will have a very standard, understated car that still packs a good wallop and thats just how I like them - wolf in sheeps ;-)

Have you looked at the Spec D ?? All the engineering but without the looks.

Seeing the name Duncan I'm assuming he's referring to Dynamix?
270bhp is a rather hopeful figure if the car's standard - I'd be surprised if you make much more than 250bhp if the car's unmodified.

Oh, and an STI up pipe and centre decat won't fail the MOT as you'll still have the cat in the down pipe.
I run a Prodrive sports cat on mine, with STI decat up pipe and centre decat pipe, passes MOT fine.
I can't remember if the 2.5 WRX's still have the up pipe cat or not....someone like Shaun (Midlife) or Harvey would know.

You never know. I had my 06 WRX rolling roaded when it was totally standard and she made 253bhp in standard form without remap! They all vary. Cant see why 270bhp is not achievable from wrx with just a remap.

Also, the 06 WRX doesn’t have a cat in the up pipe. Just the 2 in the downpipe.

Ahhhhh....that is probably why they make better power then - they're less restricted than the 2.0 versions.

Interesting, I have to admit I'm looking at Hawk STI's now!

Just gotta be careful of the 2.5L piston failures and know the limits of the engine. You will either be lucky or not!

Otherwise, absolutely cracking cars to drive with the large torque figures.

I think that even more reason to keep it sensible, lets see how the car is, how it runs, easy mod to get some more usable power

Plus we are running in to winter now and although massive power can be fun on winter roads not so

Counting down till Friday ;-)

Quick shot after work in the rain

Turbo is coming in a lot earlier and massive mid range power - its gooooooood

And nice to know that with an STi turbo and removing the middle cat it will hit 350BHP and still pass the MOT - but that will be later next year

big thanks to Duncan - www.racedynamix.co.uk/

Looks good - interesting read, this is pretty much what I'm planning to do later this year. I've got a fairly standard 06 WRX wagon and want to keep it standard more or less, but I miss the kick of the old classic STI, so I'll start with a basic remap as you've done and take it from there

Yes interesting for me also as I have had my '56 Wagon for two weeks now.

Its already had Stage 1 mods - full Milltek, panel filter & remap.

Makes 285bhp/342lbft - ride that torque wave

That's the good thing about the standard 2.5's - they make great torque in comparison to the standard 2.0's.
Was amazed to see the torque a Hawkeye WRX made when I was last down at Surrey Rolling Road.
