The digits will tell later. I don't really care if it's not an RA, but I'm certain it is 280+bhp.

Buddy, it doesn't matter what model, power or spec your car is.
The MOST IMPORTANT thing is that you enjoy driving it.

But get the applied model code up, at least then you will know what it is which will help when you come to sell it.

Well it's good news and bad news...

The good news is you do have an STi, the bad news is you don't have a type RA (which explains the lack of roof vent).

I'm still chuffed as its a V-limited version what ever that's suppose to mean. If its the vent thing that is different that's nothing special. Anything else different on the type RA compared to to limited edition? Thanks

That explains why I couldn't identify the turbo model. I wasn't sure if it was a Td04 or a Td05, but if I'm reading you comment correctly it's none of those. Any more details on the turbo used in this like it limitations, maximum potential.

Type RA was a lightweight "Race Altered" version. Most of the toys such as air-con and radio were removed (but were still available as optional extras) and they also had shorter gearing and DCCD (Driver Controlled Centre Differential) as standard. Oh yes, and a roof vent from v3!!

A VF23 sounds interesting will have to read up a bit on this. Does any one know if I could get 350-400bhp using this turbo with the right mods? Also would it be advisable to change to Eagle H-Beam Rods? Or is there a cheaper option that can produce these numbers.

350bhp is the limit on a VF23 I believe, it won't do much more than that.

350bhp is good for me if this is achievable on the stock internals. I don't mind changing the rods for stronger one, but if I have to do the pistons then I'm gonna want to go for more power.

over 350 and you'll need a new gearbox anyway and they don't come cheap, trust me I know! If I was to do it all over again I think I'd aim for 350

I heard these ecu' can be tunned, but failing that if I had to change would I have to change the injectors also? And can't the boxes be strengthened with some kind of kit?

Shock time
if you want to modify above 350bhp (and that really is the limit, i wouldnt want to do that on this engine or a car this old tbh) then your going to have to splash out a **** load of cash, and I mean a lot to get it reliable.

Your gearbox, it sucks, it will chew itself up and throw its teddy out (or around) the internals, basically scrapping your box.
A good rebuild kit (just the kit, not the rebuild) is around 2500 quid (scoobyclinic gearset), and you could probably add another 1k on that to have it built.
Your engine (why does everyone think these engines are rock solid, they use to rebuild these well under 350bhp when they were only a couple of years old, not 15 years old), a good rebuild with decent internals will be 3-4k.
So far your up to 7.5k, and we have not even started!
Aftermarket ecu 1200 quid mapped.
Upgraded turbo, injectors, headers etc, just add another 1k on for that.
Brakes (you will need these), 700 quid min
Suspension (you will need this too) add another 1k
Clutch, 500+
So 11k there on a 15 year old car....
I bought a 2003 spec c limited last year for less than that with 20k on the clock, it actually has more power out of the box, I dont need to replace anything on it (well maybe some discs and pads but thats done and I could do the brake lines too, 50 quid, killer that).
It would cost me around 3.5k to upgrade with brand new parts, I'd have a car that was 6 years newer and handled like a dream
It would also be quicker than a classic with the same power (twin scroll much better power delivery and in gear umph).

If you want reliability on a classic then its going to cost you a fortune, you are better off going newer, a UK MY05 car would be cheaper to upgrade than my spec c and is a better car than a classic in more ways than one
