OK even better, use the very latest version of FFMpeg 6 and select the iPod320 presets and that works for everythuing I have been able to test it on so far.... iPhone3GS, iPhone4, iPhone4S and several Androids - good quality vs file size setting too
ffmpeg -i source.wmv -y -f ipod -vcodec libx264 -vpre normal -vpre ipod320 -b 500k -r 25 -s 480x272 -ab 96k -ar 44100 -ac 2 target.m4v
or -s 426x320 for 4:3 stuff

Just found out that it now doesn't run on an iPad2....
FFS what is the matter with this company??? They go out of their way to stop the use of Flash which would have sorted this issue in 2 seconds and then make each of their devices differently compatible with MP4s.
Back to the bloody drawing board then!!
