the main concern with open source from my current point of view is lack of recovery if flash fails part way through, unless that has been added unbeknown to me? and no key coding?

Also the lack of time stamp when the ecu was last written too etc

the argument has been done over and over.. its a choice of mapper not software.

Flash fail recovery is already integral now. Had several occurrences of this due to a dodgy cable and always managed to recover!

Key coding is a bummer indeed, although my main mapping outlet is at a Subaru main service agent, so no need for me to be able to do it!

 

Well in my limited knowledge the A/F Learning range D carries a self learnt correction based on AFR & MAF/Injector scaling which it learns over a period of time.

This figure is quite often reset to zero on reflash and definately on ECU reset, given that this figure can be a positive or negative correction on the OL fuel map, obviously a negative correction will after time cause the car to be running leaner than it would have been showing on the day of mapping.

I am just starting to learn all this for myself so more than happy to be corrected...

 

Not a bad guess Paul, been reading up I see! The effect is as you suggest, the solution would appear simple but is not so.

 

The solution is escaping me, but i'll try to make it my mission to find out, my initial thoughts are better MAF scaling against AFR at the higher ranges...

I have been reading a lot, it's something i've wanted to learn how to do since the early 00's when i bought my first Cosworth, i'm now in a position where if it all goes horribly wrong i probably wont financially cripple myself recovering from it.

I'd be happy to pay for a tune/dinner/beer if it came with some knowledge and a few basics on operating a dyno lolol

 

Sounds like you want to set up a mapping business? Buy yourself a dyno and then we'll talk! lol!

 

Yeah i'll just drop £50k on a dyno to tune my own car as a hobby , i spent the first 8 of the last 10 years self employed and the last 2 years on a payroll, much less stress and a regular sum of money thrown in the bank once a month, it'd take a hell of a lot to turn my back on that now especially given the current climate lol

This topic does often show up the difference between the UK and US forums, over there it's all far less secretive, many top tuners happy to help and pass advice on the forums, not everyone wants a tune that pushes their car to the best of it's ability, some people would just like to be able to take control of there own, i just want to be able to map my own car and i WILL learn how too Starting off with LOTS of logging....

 

I'm happy to help to be honest, but not on an open forum and best way to do that is to get you up for a mapping session where you can map your car on my dyno!
