****ed around with this all day and then found my processor does not support virtualisation - This needs to be enabled through the BIOS apparently.

I decided to give it a full install and not through a VM. Didn't like it at first, but think it's growing on me. Set up partitions during the install so I could have another go at installing Ubuntu 11 as a boot option. Don't think I like the tiles as it's all a bit messy, but you can delete them and arrange it how you want so I need to play with that some more. Couldn't figure out how to turn it off though, every time I clicked to power down it just went to the lock screen. Read An0n0m0us' post above though and found that Alt+F4 brings up a different option to power down and that worked. Boots up fast, but so far not got much installed so could be why.
