Do you mean mapping or engine work? If mapping, Dynamix (Duncan) on here travels and does a good job!

Once you get to his new place you'll know why he has issues as there is no network signal. I had my scooby serviced by him and he got it done quick, better to email as already said he emails back pretty prompt.

The new place is pretty much in the middle of nowhere as Jazz says. Very poor mobile reception

Lets not. You can't run from yourself ! different premises same **** service

I'd ask how many 2008's he's done first, research and development is an expensive mistake Jolly Green Monster has done a good number of 2008's with their different drive options. I'd have him at the top of my list having used 3 of the many mappers offered on snet.

Having looked at my original mocom map in detail on my STi Spec D, lazy is an understatement. About as inspirational as a Gordon Brown speech And I won't even mention the Simtek map on my wagon Pays your money makes your mistakes

O don't think for one nanosecond JGM is going to lower his price, even if you have asked so nicely!
The Ecutek licence is what costs, plus his experience and skill, do you think he should give it away?

lay off a bit as he seems fine to me
With the greatest respect your opinion is based on a phonecall, mine and others is based on experience like I say you pays your money etc... If you're happy then cool, but I pmsl when people say to me I should have listened to you

As for cost cheaper isn't better

I don't know your boss ?

Fact Mocom is not as good as JGM and I have used both I wouldn't pay £300 or whatever he charges these days, but I would pay £550 for one of JGM's maps

FB Tuning is another great mapper, and open source (cheaper).

I share from experience, you can choose to do what you like with the information

Did your boss map Subaru? If so, why don't you go to him. I think youll find most Ecutek mappers are around the same place, as are open source. Cheapest isn't always best.

Itthe parts that make the map worth while. They were wise words said by my old boss. maps are only used to make the other partsthey bought fom you or fitted by you worth while. How can you charge 550plus vat for a map. If he fancies lwering his price then maybe. if not ill let zak map it. he know why the 2008's had problems on the phone and how to solve the issue so assuming he knows what he's doing

Lets not turn this into an arguments. Ill give him his chance and if it turns out a waste of time ill eat my hat. till then lay off a bit as he seems fine to me.
Spoken by someone who hasn't the slightest clue what they are talking about.
The reason it's £550 is because of the Ecutek license. Subsequent maps will be less. Go to any other mapper and the price will be the same. If you want a map that's not Ecutek it'll be less but you get what you pay for.

Let's not slag a very well known very popular mapper off because of your lack of knowledge.

No probs FWIW anyone with a laptop can make a car feel better than it was by playing around with fuelling and the like, it's no great achievement, so I am sure your butt dyno will go away happy.

However you can't hide the insufficiencies when a credible mapper shows you in detail the various mapping tables etc that have actually been changed !

That's when you find out what the extra money was for

Best way to see a good map would be to strap a KS3 knocklink to the engine after and watch the levels!
I would bet my savings JGM's or FB Tunings map would be very low[safe]

If communication was his only shortcoming then it wouldn’t be so bad.

Did you read my earlier post?

- 6 weeks to build a gearbox but kept popping out of fourth gear.
- 2 months to rebuild it and then had to have a third rebuild due to all the problems as per my post.

The lack of response/communication when he HAD my car was at the old premises where reception was not an issue. If communication was the only problem then it wouldn’t be such a concern.

Now you’re talking about mapping so I can share my experiences there.

Mocom map produced 368 bhp (forged 2.35 with a 321T) with hours of mapping. With the exact same spec JGM produced 398 at the same boost with the det gone in much less time (much more driveable too!). JGM was also helpful and pointed out that I had engine issues, which was why he couldn't get more out of it. With this new found information, I made the decision to take it apart where all sorts of problems (NOT related to Mocom I must emphasise) were identified. I can share these if you're bothered but as not Mocom related I'll leave it.

APi since rebuilt it and since then Bob Rawle mapped it and now in the 450 range with the same spec.

Experiencing these three different mappers has given me an idea how different guys go about getting the results. It has also shown me how far one of them of is behind. I’ll give you a clue, it isn’t Bob or JGM.

Hugely disappointed with the time and money I wasted with Mocom. Even more so because at the end of the day, I liked the chap, which is why I continued to go back despite the lack of communication (and I didn't know any better at that time)...

What exactly is your experience? All you do is generally slag him off ...

I can say, fact, that he serviced my Spec C then my uk2000 over a 4yr period with absolutely no problems whatsoever.

Your experience listed is for basic service stuff, which any competent mechanic could complete.

What has been asked about here, is for work that if done wrongly can destroy an engine. Several snet members have shared their experiences, so that others do not have to go through the same thing.

If you knew half of 53WRX's experiences with this company, you would again stop commenting. So please stop trolling, again.

I'm not trolling, tell us what happened. Just because we disagree does not = troll

TX.

PS. The OP just wanted to get hold of Mocom, there was no specific request for "work that if done wrongly can destroy an engine".

When I had my spec'c and was looking at further upgrades well into 400bhp it took me three months to get a quote from Mocom. in that time I got bored and sold the car.

This thread was resurrected by someone looking to have their car mapped.
And i'm sure you are aware of the possible consequences if this is done badly.

It's not for me to tell of 53WRX's experiences, but I promise you, if you knew you would be shocked!
