Try them is the best way by far, however when you come to buy try shopping around, you will find huge price variations for the same product.Mattress.co.ukRob

i have a memory foam mattress and boy its 10 times better than the old springed matress i had , i used to have trouble sleeping some nights and suffer from back pain after hauling wheels and tyres all day . i now find that the support i get from the matress has eliminated the strains while sleeping and so on. i would recommend getting one . i got mine from bensons which were £450 cheaper than dreams etc

When you go to bed on a memory mattress, do you fall into the hole that you left when you got up?

Memory foam is too hot for me, that said I'm usually chucking the covers off in the middle of winter

Got a pocket sprung jobby with a sprung divan base that is very comfy. Best bed I've ever had.

Memory foam way too hot for me, and i think the pillows are too hard. I have a Vi-Spring pocket sprung jobby and i'd take it over memory foam any day of the week. Horses for courses.

One of the best purchases of my life getting the memory foam mattress, you crave your own bed if you dont sleep in it for just one night it's that good !!

Good Link Dr No, wouldn't mind trying out the Diamond Latex Platinum range when our present one bites the dust

We have a tempur and it's way too hot for me - much prefer the Vi sprung type jobbies, but... the wife loves it . She also likes the pillows which i don't as they are too hard -I end up with a numb ear if I sleep on one side...

Exactly what I have, and it's lovely.

Technically they are exactly the same as Tempur, but the cost is VERY different. Also, they don't deliver the mattress squashed up - it's delivered as a full sized mattress.

Would absolutely recommend memory foam mattresses in general - not too hot in the summer... I don't notice any real difference over a regular mattress in that respect.

love my memory foam mattress.

one downside that no one else has mentioned is if you're seeing, dating or whatever you call it, a squirter, its going to absorb up like a sponge, and any future women will be able to see your previous relationships stained all over like a road map of your dirty life.

Hi - i've not read the previous posts but just to let you know - i've just been made redundant from Bedshed/Sleepmasters/Bensons of 5 years - they're all the same company with different profit margins.

anybody can get intouch with me if they like - working in sales, helping others NOT get ripped off is a sort of Karma for me doing it daily lol

SO.... my usual script to customers was;
DO YOU LIKE HOT BEDS? (i dont)
Memory foam absorbs its environment - as does foam does naturally in the sea. way to look at it, if you DO like warm/hot beds go for it.
If your 50/50 in the summer with your spring matt - do NOT get memory foam in any form (full matt/5" inner topper or ordinary throw over topper) - you sink down into the foam, your body heat goes into the mattress and has nowhere to go as air can't circulate and cool, thus it turns into a radiator as the heat comes back up....to you, BUT on the flip side this is good for joints in the older generation with arthritis ETC.

BACK ACHES DIAGNOSED OR NOT?
Memory foam offers you 100% support from head to toe, BUT (and this is a biased view) Pocket springs also offer 100% support with or without memory foam.

WHAT ARE POCKET SPRINGS?
as the name suggests - they are individually pocketed smaller springs, because they're smaller they have greater contact pressure points with the body thus enabling them to contour to the body shape, whatever shape.
They range from 750 to 3000+ springs, they do less than 750 but your sacrifising support going for less, also when you go to try beds - not many salesman let on that when you go above 2000springs, the coils in the spring are halved, in affect having two small springs ontop of each other. which isn't a BAD thing - but why pay for 3000 when 2000 are doing the same job (remmeber support is there with 750 springs), the only thing that will change will be the firmness....depending on what gauge wire (thickness wire)
they use and of course the price.

What sort of price range are you looking at? i could go on all day but i'll stop with this for now...unless your sorted?
(mrs wanted something doing so told her i was busy and put my head in the laptop wihlst typing this hee hee)

Make sure it has a gortex backing and will be deep enough for your matt.

All good quality protectors that are waterproof and breathable incorporate a gortex backing. The sides will be elasticated and fit different depths.

indeed, but if you buy a silly deep mattress many dont produce them to fit above 12", hence why i had to buy a 20" depth one that had to be specially made to fit my matt

Aaron - I'm an Osteopath and our profession generally recommends pocket sprung with memory topper. I went for one of these earlier this year, throwing out my 10+ year old wire framed mattress, which I must say served well. The new one is uncomfortable and gives me lower back ache. there's no way I can have a lie-in. The matress also, how shall we say raises my heat... quite a few of my patients have said the same of their 'mixed' spring and foam mattresses

My feeling is I shouldn't have gone for a memory foam, should have gone just pocket sprung, and also gone firmer.

Reason I went 'medium firm' was Bensons persuaded me with their computer mattress matcher. They said a less firm mattress would support more of my body, where a firm would place me more 'on the top', not yielding in the right places. I didn't end up buying from Bensons btw

There is no yardstick for feel and 'right' mattress for you. We're all different and find different feels suitable. Stick with a feel that you find conducive to a good night's sleep. In your case a firm pocket sprung would have done the job and dare I say a firm open coil would probably have been okay.

LOL thankfully i rarely worked in Bensons stores - their 'patta' (craic) is **** and they're jumped on from a great height to get big sales opposed to finding the correct mattress for each customer thus encouraging good word of mouth.
Their computer system is a joke - it has 10 different programs on repeat...try it 10times and get 10 different results lol

They'll have been pushing for bigger money from you. I NEVER EVER said to people "this is a 8/10 in firmness or this will suit your body", only you know what feels good, i demo'd beds based on what I found laying on them and tailered to the customer from there from what they said "too firm ETC"

...or commission bringer lol ;-) mine was both a bargain and needed - the 180cm divan i previously had came with a shallow base as it was the 'in thing' when i got my first house, so if i put a 'ordinary' matt on even at 12" it was still a great fall down to the matt lol....somebody ordered my mattress put a 50% deposit down on it and never came back - sent letters/voicemails, 4months went by so one quiet sunday afternoon, checked the new discontinued price of said matt and it had came down 40% in comparison to the customers invoice, so i paid the further 10% and got myself a new matt haha

naughty but nothing ever came of it...some people have too much money.

I have a super kingsize tempur deluxe cost me an absolute fortune nearly 2 grand but I have to say I've had it 3 years and it's has good now as it was when I bought it

One thing to note all memory foam will try mimic tempur but you need to look at the denseness of the foam the more dense the better tempur being the ultimate, I also have 2 deluxe pillows

Whichever you get people moan at heat just get a good mattress protector marks and spencer do one for 120 it's made by outlast and reflects heat it's great I'm cool as anything in bed just right.

Only bad thing about them is when I giving the wife a portion I have massive fist holes in the bed for the whole 2 minutes I last haha

We have a mattress protector on our Tempur (and it's the same size as yours - ooh aren't we grand) and it's still too hot for me so don't be so certain. My tempur pillow lasted 3 days before being binned.

Fat Boy, do you think your extra...how can i put this...."insulation" might be contributing to the problem?

I'm still totally with you though; for naturally warm people, memory foam is rubbish, and energetic sex turns into a wade through treacle. The pillows are just awful in my opinion, although i'm a self-confessed fussy ****** when it comes to pillows.

*nods slowly*

Fundamental problem is: as you heat up, you sink into them, the more you sink into them the hotter you get.....vicious circle! Pillows are uncomfortable because they are warm (yuk) and your head starts off in a comfortable position, but ends up much lower than you'd like in relation to the rest of your body!

I'd advocate a good pocket spring matress and if you want to give memoryt foam a go, get a decent "topper". You can always remove this if you don't get on with it or when the temps increase!
