The TV deal needs to be accepted by the teams, one thing they will insist on is full races on the BBC even for the non live ones. It's a bargaining chip and one Bernie and the BBC will have to concede.

Lets also hope the BBC don't start showing the races late at night. Don't want it starting at 11pm onwards, as I have to be up at 6:30am every morning for work.

 

You'd think the loss of Johnathon Woss from the Beeb's payroll would have covered the costs for the BBC to host all the races.

But if needs must; these on the payroll need teh chop:

Bin Graham Norton (£2million per year approx)
Lineker (£2mil)
Hansen (£1.4 mil)
Anne Robinson (£1mill)
Moyles (£0.6mill)
And Fiona Bruce needs her pay cut too (one trick pony...as demonstrated in the Duke interview; stick to the autocues luv).

I know my friends in America watch the BBC coverage.

 

Highlights have been on bbc3 at 7 pm.

Doesn't matter what you think. Viewing figures is more important. For what it's worth I'm a huge fan of Wimbledon and would not want to lose

 

I don't know how as it is not legally broadcast there. F1 in the US is covered by Speed and Fox, neither have a BBC commentary agreement.

 

Does Wimbledon get higher viewing figures than F1?

 

Some of it yes. However, BBC supply all the coverage for all the other networks so I'd imagine that makes it more profit.

 

That would depend how the figures are worked out. BBC show about 10 hours of Wimbledon coverage a day split over both BBC1, 2 and HD so over such a long period they would inevitably get more viewers.

I'm not exactly sure how but when they came over here they said they watched it and knew all of the BBC team and said they preferred it to the american drivel they push out.

They probably stream it because of the better coverage.

 

Yes, thinking about it after I wrote that I thought they probably use a proxy TV service to get the UK TV channels. That's what a few people I know used to do in Aus before One HD picked up the live races.

I have always enjoyed watching Wimbledon on tv. It is a well produced programme.

I think there's room for all sports on the Beeb, even footie (bores me).
Part of the problem , I think, is that we have become accustom to being able to watch the whole F1 series on terestrial TV. The same can't be said for footie, or golf, or tennis, or most other sports. You just don't see every single event in any other sport.

Don't get me wrong, I love F1 and I think it's a backward step for F1 fans and the Beeb as well, but perhaps we're just getting a fair share of viewing time.

I noted Sky are saying 'No ads During the racing'. However I bet they will show them during a red/yellow flag though. That's what ITV used to do.

 

Also right before the start and immediately after the end and all through the build-up. No thanks!

 

I read somewhere that there would be no adverts during the race "whilst the cars were still in motion" (or something equally as innocuous), so red flag perhaps but not under yellows or the pace car, etc. Having said that though, I can't for the life of me find the source of this so there is a small chance I may have imagined it...

Personally I quantify the whole event as a race from start to finish (i.e the point at which the cars enter and leave the track). Broadcasters may see that differently, certainly the manner in which ITV cut to adverts was highly annoying.

Thank god for V+...Let it run for 30mins on live pause then sit down and FF all the ads.

 

Boycott Sky, work out and share scores based on BBC coverage only, start a revolution.

 

I shall look forward to the better quality coverage from Sky.

But how do know that this is going to be the case.
At present, F1 on the BBC is run by F1 geeks for F1 geeks.
I can see Sky taking a very different approach.

 

I'm just going to wait and see what happens. Pointless complaining about the quality until we see the competition.
