DIY FMIC Project....
Sorry Steven, never saw it, I looked honest!
Interesting lumps and bumps on yours. I know the problem with david's which is a boost map issue, hopefully sorted once I send him some new stuff to try.
Does the boost come in that late on the road? I couldn't really see the tacho from the back seat, but it didn't seem anywhere near as laggy as that curve suggests.

thats interesting comparison paul.
its pulling .5bar at 3000rpm
and 1bar at 3500rpm
with full 1.25bar at 3800rpm
still needs alot of tweaking though!
and as you say on the road you could not feel it.
how much of Davids would you say were boost spikes etc?

From: Leeds - It was 562.4bhp@28psi on Optimax, How much closer to 600 with race fuel and a bigger turbo?
no boost spikes on mine to speak of.. the boost fluctuates due to the mad duty cycles we had to use to get the boost at the time.. (remember we only got it to go above 16psi at 2.00am the day before well lane.) Paul has since done some work on the boost control and then we will try that...

As david says, it's not a boost spike, rather a boost dip. Just didnt have enough time to sort the boost control, not surprising as nobody I know has ever used the standard ecu to control 22psi of boost properly.
We could have put a dawes on to make life simple, but what's the fun in that.

And just for a laugh
the moving target currently is..............

Anyone got a VF hybrid graph to overlay ? it should show the lack of midrange torque compared to the TD series IMHO

All in good time my friends...
What boost were you running andy to get that power figure?
Edited to add:
Bring the mods Steven, by Well lane 4 you will be trailing far behind [the hearse of doom].

The worrying thing is Steven, your probably not far wrong
especially with the Nitrous !!
Paul, not 100% sure as I was watching the knocklink and EGT gauge as it run on the rollers. Out on the road before the run it was 1.5 bar midrange dropping to 1.35 ish by 6500
I know David's was dropping more at the top end that day although probably similar boost midrange where we both top the 340 mark.
FWIW the front entry mod did not increase my peak torque but it did retain it higher up the RPM range due to improved breathing.
Look forward to the TD hybrid results

Steven, haven't you spent enough money already?
Hasn't your credit card flexed enough already?
I don't think I will be anywhere near your results in January. Not unless I do something drastic.
Edited to add:
What on earth could I be doing in wales next weekend? I'm not watching the rally. But I might be going home with a WRC engine to put in the doommobile, or not, who knows?
Oh the intrigue...
Paul
PS. i get commission from all scoobyshop vendors for egging people on and making them spend money. So spend away!
PPS. 850 injectors should be available soon if required.

Dave,
I was going to post my graph, but thought better of it. Besides, there isn't enough room to over lay it on yours, well, not above 3500rpm anyway
Now I wonder if I cound knock together an engine in time for WL

Ok, so it was a different day this time last year infact, and before other things were done to it but my car with the same (ish) turbo to Steven produced these figures at PE (tabulated format so you can overlay it yourselves) with 1.25 bar of boost on a fairly gentle map
rpm lb/ft bhp
2500 170 75
3000 190 110
3500 250 170
4000 290 220
4500 308 265
5000 300 280
5500 295 310
6000 285 325
6500 280 344
Had to lift off to avoid hitting the limiter on the over run to get a 'peak' after that but it was still pulling like a train!
It was stronger this year with the WI running and a few other mods, like the fuel pump...but then the gearbox was broken by mister hamfist (me) so when it's back on the road it will probably be running some proper boost on a proper engine

Andy,
unfortunately, my engine is taking a little longer to sort than expected. Probably due to a few changes I'm making
However, I'm just waiting for a few bits to turn up, and I'll be building a "baby" version. I'll do my best to get it finished, even if it's just to keep you honest

Very nice project David...
For a next little DIY experiment, and to sort your TIG welding skills... How about an Equal Length Manifold? Should give you plenty of OOOMMPHH for virtually zero cost (just piping and TIG gas/metal)
My compliments to you

StevieTurbo WTF was that?
I can only guess it is a straight 4, cast-iron direct injection block with green injectors and a sports ECU and probably carries a blue oval somewhere and has RWD?
All you guys have some very nice machinery there....(jealous? moi?)...and you are seriously making me consider chopping in the legacy for another impreza..........

Stevie that doesnt count, bring your legacy.
