Dave H's post (#21) says it all - the yardstick used for measurement here is purely relative, so the whole report is all but completely meaningless without a lot more context. The problem with that though is if the researchers bothered to get it, they'd end up with a number far smaller than the 3.5million they started out with, which would make for far less attention-grabbing headlines.

If they are at home ALL day EVERY day why can't they at least tidy up!?!?!?
I hate it when people don't tidy up
Even the kids are brought up to think in the manner of, "I'll never get a job so why try?"

the young lad, Sam and the Glasgow girl, courtney struck me as unusally intelligent and and literate.
sam's dad sadly looked like a hefty drinker at a guess.
I hope one day they come good and break out of the cycle.
I felt very sorry for all those children: I do feel the parents need to stop having children when they can't afford them, equally there is clearly a lot of men out there, having children and then failing to ever care or look after them: which is also disgusting.
Ditto to another poster: I can totally agree: Courtney bless her in Bradford: lives in a fully modernised, central heated, double glazed, alarmed, secure housing association property.
but mum can;t be arsed cleaning up, hoovering, or even stipping the walls and slinging some cheap lining paper up to make things look half decent.
her mum had no teeth: now thats either drugs, alcohol or sheer neglect.
and as usual a whacking great dog.
because when you have no money and 4 mouths to feed, you need a pikey dog.
some people are too stupid to have children sadly. thank god there are decent landlords out there housing and caring for all these people, at least they are not in unfit accommodation, all shacked up in one room, like they would have been 100 years or even 50 yrs ago.

why why why do people rant on and on about a problem with no solution .
toffs breed toffs
middle class breed middle class
and passengers breed passengers
there is only one answer and it will never happen in our lifetimes,
more equal distribution of wealth in this country.
i work all month to be about £70quid better off than i would be sat on my **** at home . and because of this we get punnished , we pay council tax we pay school diners etc , some might call me MAD hence the name madscoob i myself prefer the words WORKING AND PROUD ,
until the system is radically changed this will continue so i recomend everyone gets used to it , oh and if the md of the company i work for is reading this could i have a small donation from your £485000 sallary as i would like a holiday in wales this year as we havent bean away for 9 years
