Apple are about to "Change Everything" again
Must say I am surprised about iOS5 being available on the 3GS.
Somewhat underwhelming keynote, but then it's a dev one, not the usual product launch type thing.
iCloud sync is interesting. The music side of things, hmm, so $25 a year for us much as you can eat? What happens if you don't renew next year? Can you still access the music? If so then it is very temping to pay for a year, "upgrade" all of my existing music to shiny new versions, and grab whatever new music I want, then stop using the service. Have a feeling it'll be a lock-in though.

Great WWDC keynote today, interesting comment on TUAW, the most expensive item launched today is just $29.99!
How much was your Windows update? LOL

I lucked out with Mobile Me, mine runs out this week. It's been a fantastic service and now everyone gets it for free. How good is that. No mention of a direct iDisk replacement, but dropbox has that covered.
Great that my 3GS lives on for another update but I would have liked new hardware, was hoping for a 4s.
Lion is stunning, but my iMac now needs an upgrade it's only a core 2. I'm thinking 30" display rather than the whole shebang.
iOS looking good. Good job hiring the person who developed the notification system that was copied by Android.
Loads more to be revealed I'm sure.

No, no, much more likely to have copied from WebOS as Apple hired that developer a year ago. I'm sure it's just as different as any Gestures Android may have borrowed.
Looks good though eh.
Big cheer for all the people who would like to buy an iPhone but can't stand iTunes!

Correct me if I'm wrong (will watch the keynote at work later, have been told by our team manager we *have* to watch it, what a shame
) but could isn't all about data storage, it's partial storage and mainly sync? The issue I have if it's mainly storage is what happens if your internet connection at home is down and you cannot access your media, not exactly helpful is it.
I might get a device on iOS5 sometime this week, devs are, obviously, at WWDC, so we QA's have a bit of time to do some housekeeping, and looking at the new iOS before them would be amusing to say the least.
I'm also curious how the iBooks session goes too

That's a pitfall that's not exactly new Marcus, I still keep a lot of local data for exactly that reason. But every year my percentage of online data goes up and the amount of times I'm caught short goes down.
I have a whole load of CD's that will find a nice home on iCloud and a shed load more that I hadn't bothered importing but will be handy just an internet connection away. I wonder if import will change in iTunes? Why rip the whole disk beforehand any more.
Beta testing on Americans right now I think.

Can I just buy a copy of Lion and chuck it on any ol intel platform or does the machine have to be propitiatory?
If the latter, then it isn't comparing apples to apples - as the Apple variety of hardware is circa 3x the cost of a standard PC

Buy a second hand iMac, take it apart and put it together again, stick a neon in it if you like. Upgrade to Lion. It'll be better than the bag of bones you thought you were saving money on.
Well my 2p, fwiw, Lion is a MUST (especially at that price) - will wait until the first few adopters report back though (Apple DO have a history of fooking up owners' Macs with quirky updates - but no more than Micro$haft).
I still don't see the point of iCloud - Steve Jobs (surprised he's still upright tbh) is stating that everything's going cloud-based........ this seems to be the Apple vision.
I'm not convinced. It's an outlay per year for something most people (in some way, shape or form) carry around with them anyway.
Might be time to look at Mobile Me if it's now FOC......
The file xfer side looks good though - Air Drop.
iOS5, not that bothered tbh. Same as Jack though- disappointed that there's no new hardware as such. iPhone 5 would have been interesting..... by the time it comes out, I'll have made my decision either way... and may look at iphone 6/7......

I doubt I will upgrade my machine just to use lion. Probably will use it at work though
I am currently in sunny California, so I expect it'll be morning release for me and afternoon for you
I went to the Apple Store this afternoon to buy a mini-dvi to VGA connector for my Macbook (which I think should be included anyway..) and they said tomorrow with a wink and a "Shhh..." so lets hope so.

It is definitely tomorrow. When presenting their financial results this afternoon the CFO stated Lion would be released tomorrow, July 20th 2011.
Don't think he mentioned a time, or wether the US would get it first, but it could be 12:01am PDT, or possibly 9:00am PDT.
Oh and there is a migration assistant update, which is needed if you're going from a SL machine to a new Lion machine, otherwise you could have problems.
