Yeah, but isn't the entrance to a round about effectively a give-way, which means that any cars on the road approaching the roundabout should be expected to slow down and expect to give-way to any car on the roundabout when it reaches the while line? The major/minor aspects of each road are irrelevant?

Give way to the right is the general law, and give-way to the right on a roundabout is the law too. If one car is already on the roundabout before the other car reaches the white line on their entrance to it, then the car on the roundabout has the right of way.

From the diagram, given the relative positions of the cars, if the blue car pulled out onto the roundabout before car69 reached the white line, car69 should give way to that blue car. It has nothing to do with whether one road leading to that roundabout is a major or minor road. A mini-roundabout is still a roundabout and size doesn't matter.

you are all wrong, and it matters not where on the "clock" you are

it is, in fact, the person that is approaching the roundabout the fastest, indeed approach a mini rounabout at any speed above 60mph you are legally alowed to remove your hands from the steering wheel

i suspect the OP pulled out from the 6 oclock position and the coppers who where travelling too fast and assumed right of way (see post above), but as the OP was now on the the rounabout, he in fact had right of way and the coppers got annoyed when called on it

I thought the rules changed and you only gave way to those on a round about. If you pull on to a round about and someone enters it after you and gives you the horn, it's their fault.

If you are on the r'bout already then you are technically on the approaching car's right and they need to give way to you?

If you plonk a mini roundabout on a main road like that then normal roundabout rules as in tne Highway code will apply.

im interested in what happened to the original OP and what he did etc :d
surely depends how close they were to the mini roundabout, ie did they have to slow down or brake for the car coming from 6 o clock

You can always pop over to Hemel Hempstead and practice roundabout technique (is it still the same?).

The end of our quiet residential road joins a fairly main route that runs through the town which is pretty busy. Mini-roundabout in middle. 80% of vehicles on main road will virtually ignore roundabout and charge straight through perhaps slowing from 35 to 30 mph. You can reach roundabout from residential road and be stopped waiting for approaching cars from right 20- 30 metres away knowing that they won't slow down. If you pulled out then there is a good chance you would get clobbered.

The fun bit is driving down the main road and turning right into residential road where you clearly have right of way over traffic coming in opposite direction. If you are feeling bloody minded it is fun to pretend to continue around roundabout and watch their faces as they realise that they need to slow down and stop to let you continue.

That's what actually happens irrespective of the "rules".
