Lee > have you seen teh French IR rules, it will allow use of Airways, so basically you can go places without all the usual bollox = WIN!
If only EASA actually listen to what pilots want....

So what's the crack - is it still 50 hours plus eleventy-million exams or is it tailored more for real world pilots?
Airways would be very nice indeed. Flying back from Jersey on Wednesday and LTMA at 4500+ and various NOTAMS with gliding and ballooning everywhere meant a very cram packed layer of 500ft! Traffic service from Brize and the likes couldn't keep up

Alright alight already... enough of the acronyms.. sheesh i thought IT was bad!
LTMA = Altimeter setting?
NOTAMS = chimps who have no idea what they're doing?
IR = instrument rating
PPL = Private Pilots License
SEP=?
PIC=?
EASA=?
All i know is 'Bandits! Bandits! Angels 15, scramble scramble!'
(mainly picked up from War Films with Michael Caine in them)

LTMA = Altimeter setting? London Terminal Maneuvering Area, an area of airspace you just don't want to be in!!
NOTAMS = chimps who have no idea what they're doing? Notice to Airmen - basically a chunk of info of where to avoid, airspace restrictions, royal flights, military testing etc
Eample NOTAM:
Q) EGTT/QFUAU/IV/NBO/A/000/999/5347N00113W005
B) FROM: 11/06/22 10:21C) TO: 11/09/22 09:00 EST
E) MOTOR GASOLINE (MOGAS) NOT AVBL
IR = instrument rating yup
PPL = Private Pilots License yup
SEP=? Single engine piston
PIC=? pilot in command
EASA=? european aviation safety agency

The French IR is one exam, made up of relevant questions, not "what's the mach number of a PA28 travelling at 100ktas?"
The flying hours are 45 IIRC - it's modelled on the FAA IR & should be useful if the CAA & EASA adopt it.

I can give one tip to a beginner, or anyone really!
Force yourself to make a habit of continually trimming out the control forces dead accurately rather than try to hold the out of trim forces with the control column.
You will be surprised how much easier it is to fly accurately and you will be a bit further ahead of the aeroplane too.
