Drive a well setup 350 hp classic STI.
After this your mind will be made up.
If your in my neck of the woods come for a ride in my car, youll be down the bank on Tuesday seeing about a loan.
I sold a 340bhp blobeye JDM STI a couple of months ago, nice car but didn't give me the same adrenaline rush my old version 3 gives me.

Lol thanks guys, I really do appricate everyones views.
It is sounding like i should either keep mine, spend the money on re-spray/re-map/handling or sell mine save up and buy a classic sti but something like 98.
MattyB thanks for the offer fella but I am up in West Yorkshire.

I have a RB5 & a bug wrx.
For a decent drive with smiles it's the RB5 everytime, the bug is more comfortable but the driving experience isnt as good as any classic I've driven, it's good but not good enough.
You can get RB5's quite cheap now, I would consider it if I was in your position.
Also if money's tight, remember bug tax is slightly higher

The classic is so much more of a raw driving experience
Yes its rattles and groans but is lighter and a lot more responsive feel to the bug eye which does have a nicer interior and a more grown up feel to it
Classics every time and if you own one now keep hold off it and have fun with it
To buy a ten year old bug eye although cheap is probably buying a potential time bomb and money Pit ,also higher road tax at £400 is not to be missed out of the equation

STi Prodrive Bug for me which is why i have one. Remapped to 330 makes it quick enough for daily dutys and 6spd is nice to have as well as the Brembros which work well also.
All in all a good all rounder for me anyway

Ive had 4 classics and one bugeye, both different animals IMO....If you intend to keep the car around the 300bhp mark then go for a classic but if you intend to stretch things alot further then a bug sti wins!
Ive left the fold for a while and bought something sensible( i think its some kind of reverse mid life crisis) but when i come back it will be in a newage STI....maybe a bug or maybe a blob.

Get round here, I'll show you a bug...
KojaK has an almost std. WRX and it's still a very capable car.
Mine is a wee bit more extreme.

P.S. J41 M1...

Heard it all before.
Do you honestly think the classic is a looker ?
dunx
P.S. Had both, no comparison.

Get up here then... only 3 miles away.
East Ardsley, I'm bored today !
LOL
dunx
P.S. Back in 2001 I test drove a WRX and wasn't impressed, it takes a wee bit longer to really appreciate just how good a package they are...

Had 3 classic scoobs in the last 10 yrs and made the tough decision to go newage sti and now i would never go back tbh. As much as i love the classic shape and grown up supporting it etc i would rather have the positives that come with the newage sti- better interior and stronger chassis, a gearbox and engine that can handle 400+bhp out the box, plus it is fairly cheap to get to those figures compared to when i did it with my old classic where i spent stupid amounts.

The classic and the bug in your case are two very very different cars. the bug will always feel more modern, bigger, spacious and refined....the classic will always be a bit more raw and more fun

I would love to also own a stripped out 1000kg Classic running 400bhp for track use only, but as I occasionally need to ferry my kids in my Bug there is little chance Im ever going to strip this for Track use, although I have considered buying an Oil burner and going down this route later this year

Obviously more were sold, but all classic STI's came here as imports, thus many where 2nd hand, and thus far cheaper.
Thus loads more around. I can cover ground far quicker in my bug, than I ever could in my classic, it's far more "planted" in extreme circumstances.
They, classics aren't a looker by any car enthusiast's choice, look at Alfa Romeo...
but don't buy one

I have been in dozens of classics over the years, all much the same, I'm not saying they are crap, just not beautiful, no way in hell any STI classic could compare with a bug-STI.
The brakes alone make it a done deal, 9 years ago when mine was standard I wasted a modified Type-R and the owner was gutted, as all my advantage was in the brakes and handling, he had way more power but that didn't help him.
Can you honestly say you'd pay £27000 for a classic STI ?
dunx
P.S. I know of a 2.5 Type-R that I would like, but as a 2nd car for weekends only.

Not really, it's for you too choose between, a raw, lighter, less comfortable classic, or a more composed, planted, comfy car if you have family as a priority.
The Newage WRX is a very good compromise, a JDM classic is far less family friendly, IMHO.
It's only "forum talk", I would have a modified Type-R as a second car if I had room to store it.

P.S. Also thought about building a hatch as a project too
