You should have considered, and driven, one then .... you really need to rule things out (or in) by prove out tests.

You may have been blown away, as I was ..

Took me 25 seconds to find this ...... you can buy it for £28k!!

http://www.pistonheads.com/SALes/2814317.htm

In every single way, superior to the Impreza STi with its Plantpot Plastics and Amstrad Switchgear!!

I hate Audi's - really hate them ..... but, you cannot argue that you would be mentally challenged to buy a Impreza STi HatchBack when cars like this are around for cheaper!

It's sad and it sticks in my throat - but it's true ..... and this is where I came in in post 1 .... the Impreza STi, at £33,450 is massively overpriced - £13,500 too expensive!

Typical lewis. Can't answer the question, so brushes it off with "not living in a farm". Think you find you'd live on a farm anyway.
Very hypocritical answer anyway. Bet you liked the 4wd when you had a Subaru. Now you don't, all of a sudden its for farmers.
You're doing your questionable reputation no favours in continually ducking the question. As you simply can't answer the question - "I'm removing that from the equation" rubbish, find something thats as fast, powerfull, 4 or 5 door that has 2wd.
Oh, and I thought you were coming back in 2 years when Subaru were gone?

Try again.

Erm ..... I did

Tested quite a few diesels/petrols before making a decision actually.

OK, I'll allow you to shine ..... show me a STi (new) which is as well equiped as that Audi S3 I linked to.

As you rightly pointed out, the Audi isn't new ..... as new cars are always better equiped than old cars you have a head start!! I'm very good to you.

Off you go ....... I await your offering with great anticipation.

I don't think it was an old vs. new comparison in anything other than it will be cheaper having 5k on the clock. For a fair comparison find a 2011 STi with the same mileage and then compare prices.

And that highlights another massive problem ....... the huge drop in residuals!! The Audi (although I hate them) will hold it's money a lot, lot, lot better than a Subaru. Indeed, my Honda will lose much less than a STi over the same time ......

It's not looking too good, is it?

Actually you haven't taken into account your link was an Audi main dealer, mine were not.

Like I said .... I took 25 seconds to find something very impressive at the same price as a STi Impreza. Yes, it's an Audi (also, highly overpriced) but I'm talking where the sensible money goes.

And why, in not a million years, is an Impreza STi worth £33,450 ..... and this is the only point I'm making.

If it was £19,999 then the cheap, tacky, awful build would - maybe - be a little more acceptable.

I disagree, when a special edition Renault Clio and Citroen DS3 are almost £25k, then the Impreza becomes the bargain of the century. I'm not saying for one minute a Subaru main dealer would get my cash if I was in the market, no sir ..... I would be straight down to Litchfield Imports

I know people have said to not feed the troll, but I find it quite funny how much an old man can argue that his diesel Honda is "so much fun"

What that doddering old moron pslewis fails to grasp is that money is not everything in this market. Heated cupholders, leather sat-nav, electically adjustable carpets - all very nice, all great for residuals, all utterly worthless to the enthusiast.

73henny hits the nail on the head when he points out this old duffer's hopeless hypocracy. He claims he loved Subarus with all his heart years ago, regardless of the very high price they commanded back then. But now that he feels he has to defend his crappy diesel (largely, I suspect, to drown out the horrible realisation that he bought a total dog-egg of a car) everything that he loved about his old Subaru, like the AWD, is suddenly useless. It really is classic self-delusion, and like all those who seek to self-delude, he is fanatical in his conviction.

And talking of things that used to be alright but nowadays look a bit outdated, irrelevant and embarassingly out of place, who else thinks this site might just be a teeny bit better off without pslewis and his utterly worthless contributions?

It could mean, of course, that they are ALL overpriced!!

I wouldn't touch French cr4p anyway ....... but, are the Clio and DS3 better cars, for £8,450 less? I don't know, I'm asking.

This is about the overpriced Impreza STi ...... don't know who dragged the Honda into it!!(however, now that you mention it again - the fact is that it is better equiped and better built and better value than the Impreza STi).

The fun factor is equal - I'll give the Subaru that ..... it's also quicker on paper - but, it's much closer in performance, in the real world (where I live).

You "wouldn't touch French cr4p" wouldn't you?

Interesting way to show your total ignorance of what makes a great driver's car there pslewis; my old Clio 182 was a cracking handling little hatch with a fantastic chassis.

I am fully confident one would flame your hopeless diesel shed down any road you care to mention, whilst having the additional benefit of not looking like the aborted lovechild of the starship Enterprise and Kryten's bellend (as your Civic does).

And before you get on your trim-levels soap box yet again, the Clio had (as standard) leather and alcantara seats, cruise control, air con, auto headlights and wipers - oh, and some guts under the bonnet, unlike your pathetic Civic grief-box.

The Citreon DS3 was Car of the Year?

I cannot find one that costs £25,000 ..... only £15,000 - is there a Rally Special one?

My experience of French cars is that bits fall off them and they break down ........ so, I consider them total pants!!

They may drive well, handle well and be amazing value for money - but I am weird in that I require my cars to stay in one piece and start in the mornings!

No, you're weird in that you get moist over awful cars and spend every waking moment on a forum dedicated to a vehicle THAT YOU DON'T S*DDING OWN!

There is no need to get so upset ...... you could walk on by and read a thread more suited to your taste - there are only one or two here with my name attached.

It's hard not to get upset at the pathetic spectacle you make of yourself on here mate - you know when you see a crazy old tramp shouting at traffic with his pants round his ankles? I feel the same heady blend of contempt and pity for those people as I do for you.

Never mind, let's both go for a nice drive in our cars to unwind - I'm sure we'll both feel better; for my part I will be excited, enlivened and enthused, and in your case I'm sure you, er, will enjoy your cupholders or something?

I will be enlivened by the quality feel of the switches, the dials, the modern silent cabin, the torque .............. ooooo that torque, that stomach flattening torque!!
