French cars are renowned for having phantom electrical gremlins (as in my 206 which went into the local dealer 4 times for faults and the fault was never diagnosed or repaired) and poor earthing.

With all due respect Merv, it was not a matter of if your engine was going to fail it was a matter of when.
Modifying any engine comes with risks especially a 12-13 year old engine, mine was 7 years old and I accepted there was a risk from the off, don't get me wrong I didn't like having to spend £XXXX but that's life and **** happens.

**** happens and I completely understand the risks of modifying, just gonna come back bigger and better
