Do you really believe that is defining ideological element of Islam. I'm really temped to give Islam the benefit of the doubt? Perhaps some posters who know more about Islam than myself could elucidate?

Like you, I think al-Taqiyya would be best discussed dispassionately by more than just a few laymen on a car forum, but there's plenty of reading on Taqiyya; some good, some bad.

Maybe but at least a liberal democracy is more open and self-correcting, there were enquirers into the causes of the Iraq war etc. Nobody ever said democracy was prefect, its how it corrrects errors is what mater.

OTOH the Iranian regime has its own propaganda channel called press TV and it executes political enemies.

If you want to suspend critical thinking it is possible to walk through life believing that something like the Iranian regime is 'good', simply because it offers a closed, solipsistic narrative (no criticism, no doubt) of itself being 'good like any Totalitarian regime - hence the appeal.

Well, f1, if a person constantly criticises the western world and its principles, one assumes that the attack has some form, the alternative being that it is the currency of a cantankerous mind. The Islamic fundamentalists one sees all over the web for example, would consider a constant written assault as Jihad - I might abhor this, but at least I can understand it and in a way respect the Jihadist's conviction.

I'm rather hoping you have some form and some principles as, in their absence, you are, by definition, formless and unprincipled.

"WTF has it got to do" with me? Well, first, I've clearly stated my postion and it would seem gentlemanly for you to reciprocate and second, I'd like to know the calibre of the man who attacks my position. I'd hate to think he was simply formless, unprincipled and cantankerous.

Yes I bet you would. My position is fairly obvious from the thousands of posts I have made and if it isn't then think of me what you like. Your opinion is not important to me!

Do you actually have a position? Because it looks to me like you just have a general emotional stance of viewing the west with suspicion and as the 'bad guy' and the Islamic world as the 'good guy'?

It's not evidence based or based on reason just like your view that the west has plans to Invade Iran which is based on zero evidence.

Well it would look that way to you given your stance on Islamic matters!

Do you have any evidence they don't have a plan to do that or to at least take some sort of military action against Iran when the West deem it is required? No, so your position is as conjecturous as mine.

Exactly It's called having an opinion and in my opinion the US are quite happy to be sitting in countries not a million miles away from the country they see as a serious troublemaker. Yes bases and carriers are all well and could, but nothing like having thousands of troops and equipment close to hand.

It isn't though, f1. Anyone can criticise a firm position but can only do so with any credibility or in a way which is dignified if they have a firm position of their own. Obscure, obfuscatious, almost as if you wish to conceal something and feel that the best form of defence is attack.

This is a good place. I do genuinely have a grudging respect for the conviction of some of the men on that site.

This was an interesting read. Some very clever, thoughtful men.

As I said not really my problem any of that

As for the Islamic site websites devoted to one thing or another are not exactly the same as 'Islamic fundamentalists one sees all over the web' are they now?

You could just as eaisly say 'Subaru Impreza enthusiasts one sees all over the web' and point me at Scoobynet as evidence ... although given most on NSR have never owned a proper Subaru that doesn't really work LOL

No it's a point of logic, you can't prove something does not exist.

You otoh are making a positive statement; that the US has plans to invade Iran.

If it's based on nothing but your gut I'm happy for you but it carried no worth.

Coy? Embarrassed? Not a bit of it. Just enjoying not giving you what you want on a plate especially when we both know you already know the answers, but for some reason known only to yourself you seem to get pleasure in repeatedly asking posters to spell things out in black and white for you.

Now you are obviously a very clever chap so one has to ask why that is doesn't one ?

Have a good evening, I'm off to enjoy conversation with real people and not Internet personas

Wriggle, wriggle.

I'll leave you with a Socratic aphorism to ponder: know thyself.

Have a nice evening.
