yeah mate, one of the guys at work has one, i spent a few lunchtimes having a play.

my works laptop does everything that the ipad does, bigger screen, more comfortable typing, faster etc etc. i just dont see the point in them when you can get much more for less. same with all apple products tbh.

My impression was that the Ipad pretty much had it sown up until HTC and the like get their act together.

I would like something like this, but am not tied to Apple!
try touch screen laptops, you can get ones that swivel round and then become a tablet, also measn the screen is well protected

They really are crap, I've seen tons and none of them were any good. What you fail to recognise in the iPad and all Apple products is that it's not the spec, it's the usability. Take a look at how iOS development has boomed whilst PC application development hasn't moved for so long it's unlikely to get going again. What was the last app you bought for your PC? Last I bought for iOS was Djay and it's incredible, blows any PC version out of the water.

Xoom and playbook are possible alternatives tough I've not played with them, at some point I will get round to aski the teams on those devices how they think they stack up against the iPad 1 & 2.

as said there isn't anything on the ipad that i can't do on a laptop, perhaps i could be considered an advanced user cos i want flexibility, not just plug and play.

The Playbook is the one I think will have the better feature set but until we see one, it is all speculation

That's hardly true, you don't have a multitouch screen for one and even if you do you don't have any software written to take advantage of it. Me I'll have both and be happy.

I played with a Xoom in the US and it is pretty good. I prefer the Android interface to the iPad. The actual tablet doesn't feel or look as nice as the iPad though.

I have an iPad 1 and am in no hurry to swap it out for a quite a while.

Live with a faulty device? I'd be getting it swapped as soon as. For all that money i'd want something that wasn't faulty.

Rumor has it that there might be something sitting on my desk come Monday morning, which would be nice, simply as it's always useful to make sure your apps function correctly on the latest device.

I watched John Lewis Online sell out of all models in 6 mins.

Mr wife turned up at 4.45 at Currys and walked out with one at 5:05
Went back for opening this morning expecting to be told I would have to wait for a replacement. But actually walked away with one.
