Christ boys we're back to this are we??.........

I think the bottom line is that being Impreza drivers, the vast majority will nudge the limit sometimes, rightly or wrongly. However there is a big difference between heading out on your own for a drive nudging the limit and openly racing an e46 M3 on a public road

The problem is, and I've said this before, is that public roads are just that. Public. They have tractors, idiots on push bikes, OAP's, etc etc. All of whom might catch you out. They certainly won't know what to do if you spook them 'testing' your car.........

There are safe places to open them up, none of them are on a public road though.

I think he was referring to the Audi's lack of torque.

So are you telling me you have never gone above the speed limit? I highly doubt that.

There is a difference between 'opening' the car up once in a while, and doing what they were doing in post 97, which in my oppinion is dangerous and reckless.

This is a ridiculous comment. If you've never planted your right foot on a clear bit of road then I feel very sorry for your.
Your either very sad or a liar my friend.
Everybody enjoys a blast now and again, racing is completely different. I do not condone racing on the public highway but opening it up when road and weather condition permit is fine in my book.

Also there is a big difference to opening up a standard/mildly modded car and a forged/big turboed monster.

Reaction time is only important if you are racing the car next to you but Daz just wanted a good 1/4m which shows in his 60ft time

Never knew that, lol.
They say you learn something every day.
Thanks fella.

I found the lights changed really quickly when I had a run last, wasn't quite ready to launch but thought I had to go with the lights. I now know I can sit there as long as I need.

It might have been midnight on any empty dual carriageway ... I don't understand how you guys can assume the worst, surely the OP will have judged whether it was sensible or not before he started

I agree. a little back road blast after weighing up all the conditions first is ok as for stupid high speeds and blasting around town thats a different story.
As for my m3 race could you say you wouldnt have done the same? bearing in mind the conditions at the time were pertect, no cars, no people, no houses, no side roads, dry straight road etc.

So enlighten us as to when the "right area at the right time" on a public highway is exactly?

Using your theory, all the innocent people that have been killed by morons racing cars on public roads were simply in the "wrong area at the wrong time" and had no right being out and about on a public road at that particular time because it was obviously set aside for the small minded inconsiderate individuals who's only concern in life is to prove that he has a smaller ***** than some tosser in an M3

By 'enlighten us' you mean most who are speaking out of thier **** who never open up thier car from time to time......I'm not on about racing it doesn't say that in my post just open up........simply giving it gas time to time to enjoy the performance you bought the car for........no need to enlighten anyone, people can use thier own noggin to when its right for them to do it (some will have more noggin than others)............as for racing I'll do mine on the track simples

spent thousands on my car getting it to where it is now, but your right, its just crazy even thinking about taking it through the revs once in a while. I may as well sell it and buy a prius......

Racing and opening up once in a while are two different things.

Ok
I will
It is all about defensive driving and the right attitude.

1. Look at yourself. Do you feel tired etc. If YES I drive like a grandad
2. How does the carfeel today, is all working well, did you check the tires ect

So once you have been through that stage.

3. What are the road surfaces like
4. what is the visibility
5. How much traffic is on the road
6. what are the approach speeds like
7. What type of potential hazards are the? e.g Tractors in fields perhaps means mud on the road.

Once you have been through that mental stage

Perhaps go for it. Looking at limit points and clocking every potential hazard

Some one that gets in a performance car and just boots it is asking for trouble. Hopefully not involving an inocent party.

There you go. Back to the fight now
