Best Oil?

any body use or tried shell helix 5 40 fully syn. i only ask as the dealer we use for Merc parts has these on offer for £20 for 5 litres!! i use silkolene 5/40 race pro at the moment had no probs and reluctant to change but this is a good price!! any thoughts??

I use Titan 10w/50 in my MY05 JDM Sti. Steve.

Yes I use the shell helix ultra 5w40 fully synth, I have no issues on either one of my scoobs

Which part is the bad part then - the 30 or the 5? I've just filled my STi classic with full 5W40

Nothing wrong with the cold weight, its 0w they dont like, the 40 is good too but the 30 in a classic is not recommended (according to subaru)

I have been told by a mechanic at Subaru that the best oil to use s Shell Helix semi synth. Just thought Id mention that if it helps.

the Gulf competition is about £40 delivered from Opie. It's an ester based synthetic and £40 for 5 litres is a pretty good price. In a country like this I would have thought 5W-40 would be the go. Australia, where I'm from, doesn't get cool enough often enough to use a 5W so people generally use 10W

well ive done the ring 12 times and approx 20 trackdays in scooby and never had a problem and always used 10w 60>>.>>>>>>> Cheers Rob

10-50 is ok but i think a 5-40 is better in colder countrys like ours. Also better for short trips and quick warm up. I also use Fuch titan race pro s but a 5-40. If i lived in spain id use the 10-50.

I was told by a main dealer that I had to use fully synthetic for an 06/07 Hawkeye sti. He couldn't confirm what grade though. I assume from what people say above it is 5w 30.

I've used this stuff in my Vectra. Can't see why I shouldn't use the same in my Impreza. It's fully synthetic 5w-30

that,s all they use at a Subaru main dealer. I asked if they could use fully synthetic and they said no we only use Shell Helix semi

millers cfs10w60 always have and always will.. no probs yet, 5scoobs later

I recently spoke to some specialists and they also recommended Millers, but 5w40. £55 for 5 litres, ordered over the phone (from Alyn at asperformance.com who was very helpful) and delivered next day So this is what I'm now using.
