Baby Isaac born this morning
Was hard leaving them at the hospital tonight
But they're in good hands I guess. Isaac's umbilical cord was massive and a lot of blood drained from it after the cord was cut. The nurses are keeping an eye on it overnight as well as Nat, who has a lot of stitches down 'there'. Least I've got the bed to myself
One weird thing though - we bought a complete Tommie Tippie bottle set as well as the steriliser etc but he's rejected the bottles as the ***** are too thick. But swapped him onto an old fashioned cheapo latex one and he's lapping up the milk! Hopefully his gums will be able to grip the thicker Tommie ones as he gets older
Anyone elses baby been like that and preferred old fashioned bottle *****?

you (and your wife) will get allot of "advice" over the next few months -- ultimately follow your instincts as his parents
and remember all they really really need is love and attention
my one bit of advice is don’t be afraid of crying – seriously ill babies don’t cry, healthy ones do

lets be clear, when it comes down to it, there is no right way or wrong way, there is just your way.

).Well we think we have the solution to baby Isaacs feeding issues...
I bought a couple of cheap Tesco value latex ***** and a couple of bottles which they fit (can't remember the brand, not important). This helped a little with his intake but during burping he was bringing a lot back up. So we also swapped him from SMA formula to Cow&Gate formula and this has worked a treat for the last feed at tea time
He again took maybe just over an ounce but hasn't sicked any back up during or after winding. Phew
Anywho, Nat is staying in again tonight, maybe home tomorrow and I'm sorting a mountain of baby clothes, nighties and knickers. My mum came round and taught me how to use this wierd "Zanussi" branded spinny thing - a machine washer apparently. And here's me thinking the laundry fairy came every night
Great to hear he is much happier.
They are quite sicky at first as they are clearing their body of all the fluid and mucus they have been living in.
Give him a week and he should be getting a few more oz's down him (as 1 doesn't seem much for his weight).
It does sometimes take time for them to adjust to formula.
Then you will be on burping duty.
Pacing the floor when you have what feels like a brilo pad between your legs won't be high on Nats list of things to do.

Amen to that.
Yes mate, was 2 Saturdays ago but did have two more shows before going into labour, then a slightly bloody one when her waters went on the loo (to Jeffs excitment
).

I do remember the midwifes coming around in week one and scaring the **** out of us over breast feeding. My Missus wanted to breast feed, so we persevered and that was the way we went. It's ultimately what worked for us.
Look forward to your updates and stories of how it all goes.

Well pleased to say baby Isaac is much better feeding now. The latex ***** and Cow&Gate milk are working better and less sick too. As for Nat, she's been offered a blood transfusion of 2 units as her hemaglobin is only 7 and not at least 11. But if the transfusion is successful then she can come home tonight
the docs are happy if it goes to about 9 and she's careful at home. Happy days.

BTW: called on you at 12, you were out.

Morning guys. Unfortunately Nat and Isaac didn't come home last night. She had one unit of blood pumped into her but this didn't finish until well after tea. Then she needed checking for blood pressure and blood tests doing. These were only taken at 8pm so come 9.30 at shift change it was best to just admit defeat and get baby Isaac settled for the night. There were tears but Nats health is as important too and if she keeled over (as her hemaglobin levels were just scraping 8) then she would have ended up back in hospital by herself.
So just had a bath to freshen up and I'm off to the hospital for 9am to hopefully get her discharge papers sorted and give the little bugge a feed too.
