Erm, don't most people on here know we are husband and wife? Or are you just trying to make a point? You were wrong on that thread, you're not going to win this one either, so give up, eh?

GGRRRRRR I HATE CYCLISTS!!
That is one thing i do love about having a loud car, i drop a gear and scream past them. always puts a smile on my face, especially if they have a wobble as i go past. one thing i miss about going recirc, i loved scaring the *******s with my vta.
im such a child!!
i know im going to get attacked for this but oh well. i do find it ridiculous that anybody can just jump on a bike and ride it on the road. to drive a car you need to prove that you know the rules of the road and then that you are safe, i know people are going to say that most people who cycle also drive so i'll beat you to it.
i think that bikes should be registered and you should have to be insured to ride on the road, i have had a bike ride into my car, (he hit me not the other way round before people start) and there was nothing i could do about it. or when a cyclist hits a pedestrian, same thing nobody knows who the bike belongs to so they could just ride off but if it had reg plates then they would get caught.
sorry for the rant but it really winds me up.

What are you trying to achieve ? would you take pleasure in someone falling off, perhaps a broken collar bone and some laceration, perhaps knock their confidence so they don't feel like they can participate in the sport/hobby/mode of transport they love, well done.
I wont go all keyboard warrior, no point, past help, but remember what a bitch Karma can be,

anyway lol at the fatties again - they are probably the same people who drive around and around the superstore carparks looking for the car parking space right at the front.

but for a few bits (quite a bit with panniers, 18 bottles of wine is possible ) its brilliant and you can chain the bike to the trolley park, right outside the doors and again save 50p, annoys me when I have to go in the car.

I have absolotly no problem with these lycra clad spandexed eddie merx wannabees, with there bobbly shoes,
However...
if you want to use the road, please be aware.
its a 30mph limit for a reason!!!!! not so you can go 2 abreast and trundle along at 21mph as a mobile roadblock.
Likewise when a car or lorry or other road user who can go faster than you, and wants to pass, let them do so as soon as possible, not decide that you think it's your god given right to weave all over the bloody road, and then start getting leary, beacuse sombody is getting mighty pissed of at your complete lack of understanding of just what total gridlock your causing.

Same things apply to you car drivers - when you're pootling along at 20-25mph in your metal boxes, please move over to the left when I go to overtake you rather than veer out to the right to block me
I'm going faster than you for a reason - because I can, so get with it and stop trying to impede my progress because you're jealous

I don't have any problems with cyclists who 'obey' the rules. (although i think they should have some kind of tax & insurance if they want to use the road, but that's just my opinion)
I just get miffed that our local council provide lots of cycle lanes for them, and they refuse to use them for some reason, then get very abusive when it's suggested they make use of them.
Also i have moved into quite a rural area, and riding 2-a-breast is a very common probem. They then have the cheek to swear when you overtake them (in a sensible manner i'd add).

Sorry, I disagree. I get more crap on the roads than most cyclists. Blonde Hair, WR1, got to get on the **** of the car at any costs, then get past, no matter what. It pisses me off, big style.
The cycle path, coast to coast, is literally 100 yards from my house, and I have never had one problem. They move over, stop, and always wave a thank you as I slow down for them.
I have more respect for the cyclist than a car driver, any day

Don't get me started on them!!!
However, there is a riding place at the end of my road, and although they can be very annoying (horses ****ting in the road etc) i see some VERY nice sights in the summer
Seems quite a few ladies in their late teens and early twenties keep their horses in those stables!!!

The big problem with cycle lanes is that they are generally very badly planned. The mixed cycle lane / footpath idea does not work if you're a halfway competent (as in fit) cyclist. I'm not quick - on my 12 mile (each way) commute I'll average 16 ish mph, but I'll easily exceed 20+mph on certain sections. The shared use paths are recommended to be NOT used if you exceed 16mph - and this 5 times the pace of someone walking
The other issue is that the painted lines ones on the road are deep in the gutter and generally too thin (the minimum is meant to be 1.5m). You get all the detritus from the traffic in there, so HAVE to stay out to avoid punctures!
Roads are for cyclists to use as well - they ARE a cycle lane. Sorry, I know you find it frustrating to be held up for a couple of seconds by a cyclist (but then happily sit behind a car / lorry / van / bus for minutes at a time without worrying) but people on bikes can use the road.
I mean: really?

So, what about those learner drivers eh, bloody menace, clogging up the roads, getting in the way.....
As for cyclists weaving all over the road, generally the ones I see keep a straight trajectory, that is cyclists, people who do it regularly as opposed to kids on bikes or drunk people on the way home from the pub because you cant get banned for being p1ssed on a bike. If I "weave" it is usually in response to a hazard, for example the grids that have been stolen, potholes, bits of trees, dead badgers, bits of car or other debris, pretty much the same as I would in a car and the same reasoning applies, if you are behind and want to overtake the onus is on you to give adequate room not the person in the car or on the bike you are overtaking, cyclists don't weave for fun as most of us know that is a bad idea as some car drivers don't leave a lot of room and weaving for fun would involve being hit so it is only generally done as a last resort, in fact sometimes I hit potholes as I cannot be sure the car behind me is far enough away to allow me to move, it can damage the bike and can hurt but to avoid a collision or annoying a motorist, sometimes its easier to get out of the saddle and hit the pothole, some are too big to hit, wonder why they are there though, I doubt its bikes that cause them.......
Some car drivers don't like you pulling out for parked cars, what are you meant to do, stop behind it, launch yourself over the roof ? that's not weaving its avoiding a car, parked in the roadway, the problem is not the cyclist !
Eco-nutter, car hating, sandal wearing, Guardian reader, er, no, not here, I cycle as I like it, I save petrol and can avoid a diesel car, I can run, even now whatever I want MPG wise as I do little mileage, most of the Cyclists I know have fairly smart cars, we arent in London !
Cycle paths, I use them if suitable, used the one through the airport tunnels at Manchester Last Night as to be honest, its death on a stick through there, all Range Rover flat out and errant United Players wrecking Ferraris, I then used the side roads and bridle paths to avoid "Getting in the way", see all cyclists you dont see, some minimise their exposure to traffic wwhere possible by using routes that are no use when in a car.
"Cyclists", they arent a sub species or any different to you, just someone who chooses to occasionally use an alternative transport method or as a leisure activity, most use cars as well, everyone is an individual who is responsible for their own actions, though tempting it is pointless to punish one person for an interaction with another, and punishing someone on a bike with your car is a fairly good route to ending up on a bike yourself.
I know its nice to have a focus for your ire, one that is an easy target, but really most issues you have on the road are not with cyclists and more generally in life, you cant blame spending 8 hours a day, five or six days a week in a car being driven by learners on cyclists.

I own a Trek 2.1 roadbike, a Cannondale R700 roadbike and a Scott Scale 35 carbon mtb. I also own a modded scoob. I'm out on one of the bikes for a longish ride most Saturdays and commute by bike a couple of times a week.
Thing is I drive more than I cycle (Ms Jock likes her lifts into work! ) and I can't help wondering if my experience of cyclists is completely different to Carrodo Dave's? Ok, every now and then I see a cyclist having a daft rant or jumping a red, but as I see it in Edinburgh most cyclists are reasonably law abiding and sensible. They're certainly not disprortionately badly behaved compared to motorsists!
When I'm on my bike I try to think what it would be like if I was the motorist behind me, hence if I'm pulling away from (green!) lights I bomb away and then pull left as soon as i can to het out of the way. I don't weave and stick near to kerb, letting peeps pass me. I really don't see what all the fuss is about!

PS Lycra is fine if you're in shape. Looks especially good on hot girls!

Just back from Tignes last week. 3 wks skiing so far and did a 3 days course with TDC. they chucked me down the Trolles black on my first day. Fell twice that day (sore thumb still!) but didn't fall the next three times so I reckon I'm improving!
