You end up in Manchester if you follow the signs to North West on the motorway. That's if you are coming from South-ish end. So, Manchester may be at the bottom of the North, on the West-ish side of the country. I could be wrong, though.

Pretty much.

It doesn't matter to me anyway, as I don't judge people based on where they are from.

It's not an attempt at a northeast accent, it's from Harry Enfield and Chums.

Is that any better??

(I was trying to be funny but failed )
North/South divide is alive and well and just as big a joke as it has always been. North cannot stand South and South thinks they are better than North.
Go figure.
We ARE better than you

Manchester is north of London, therefore, its north

Manchester has some really affluent parts and many scummy parts as Jacko says. I grew up in the middle around 4 miles from the city centre...

I think its a great place to have grown up. I have visited London and its suburbs many times, and without exception every city/town/village i have visited is a sh!thole..

Its an awful place to be..

And the beer is awful...

And they dont sell gravy for your chips...

And in general it smells unclean...

And prices for everything are astronomical...

The Only thing I hate about north /south
Chip cob/butty/roll

I asked for chips and curry in London once the bloke just looked at me like I was from another planet.

Chips cheese and gravy now that's food for champions.

Chip Cob & Gravy. A winning combination in my eyes.

Once asked for a chip cob in London and it was like I was speaking a foreign language.

As for Reading & Writing there should be no excuse in this day and age. I blame the Scrounging, thick filthy parents.
