1/4 of the population of Manchester cant read.
Just on the local news, seemed to be a lot of reasons but ffs how does anyone leave school unable to read in this day and age, hows does anybody exist without being able to read and why dont they just get on with it, the bloke on the news said that some families cannot afford books ! bet they can afford Fag's, Booze, a Car, Telly etc, I know there are some really poor people around but people who cant afford books, what about jumble sales, the library etc etc. We are not talkign about poor spelling here, people who just cannot read or write.
I have some sympathy but not much, short of special needs there is no excuse, turn up to school every day and you will be at least able to read and write even if you don't get lots of qualifications, |
This may not be what people want to hear, but how many of those are immigrants?
|
6/4 can't do Fractions either!!!
|
Have you got a link please? I'd like to send to it to my sister who has three kids in Manchester :nono:

Hardly surprising the chavs skive off more than they attend school and the old school Pakistanis would rather let their kids stay at home and watch star plus and zee tv all day rather than let them mix with non muslims.
|
My lad's 6 and can read the footie articles from the paper. Only stumbles over dodgy foreign names (like Rooney, Owen, etc ....:Suspiciou ). As you say, no excuse!

I have visited Manchester, pretty much every day really being from South Manchester, not intending to "diss" Manchester but the article was a local Manchester one hence the quote, the point being that it will be similar elsewhere, it surprised me, I dint think that seventy five percent of Manchester would be literate, only joking I was surprised that its twenty five percent, seems very high. Manchester isn't poor, parts of it are and parts are immensely, being from the South side I see it all the time, the wealth but you dont need to venture too far to see some really quite depressed areas. |

Yes I agree, but I wouldn't say as a whole it was poor. There are far worse off areas in the UK anyway.
:thumb: Yeah, but those that think they have, have no idea of what the real people have, who do not feel the need to brag about what they have. I am not a fan of, I HAVE. How many haves :lol1::lol1: |
i wonder if the guy from the recent you tube wrx autobahn post was one of them?

Easy when I know what I am saying If you have it, so what, so do I , but I don't feel the need to brag about it. Is that any better?? :D (I was trying to be funny but failed :(:D) North/South divide is alive and well and just as big a joke as it has always been. North cannot stand South and South thinks they are better than North. Go figure. :lol1: |

Looks like there may be hope for me yet. :lol1: I just wondered how Manchester was North :freak3: Newcastle is North, surely. And that is way past Manchester. Plus Newcatle is full of bright sparks :thumb: |

I mean, it is above London so it must be oop north. :lol1:;) Afterall, to some down south, we're probably in Scotland. Not that there is anything wrong with Scotland. I have no idea where this conversation has come from :lol1: |
