Whilst we are still splitting hairs....

Isn't the continent is called America, not North of South America. Although I admit that to using those terms at work.

The country of America is called the USA.

We need some good SN debates!

Yes, but the discussion on this thread does possess some tension as a good sign, which need not necessarily be a part of a discussion or a debate. This tension is due to varied understanding of the "nationality" thingy. This "winning and losing/ I am right, you are wrong/right is right, wrong is wrong/You are pointless,I am pointful" is a classic charateristic of an SN thread, mainly on NSR. IMO this is what makes SN interesting. In some other forums, there isn't any tension or a wrestling match going on during discussions. They just exchange the argument with due regards, without making the counterposter look like an idiot. Such discussions just run so flat that I'd rather read some tension than a driniking pint of flat f**king lemonade! Even our nicey-nicey Leslie throws his weight about on SN sometimes, which is brilliant.

This thread hasn't yet invloved any name calling or a religious ismisism, so I agree with Wurzel that SN debates can remain free of both, like this one.

The country you incorrectly call America (often called the US or the States) is actually called the USA. We've already discussed what this stands for.

The USA is one of 35 countrues that make up the continent of America.

I assume you don't call South Africa.........Africa?

What that's all about in this current century is that Ireland is a separate country. Do try to keep up.

With reference to the original question, I do believe the British equivalent of the US 'Jim Crow' rules would apply

By the way, we have 4 nations in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Southern Ireland, or Eire is not much to do with us and is a separate country. Their nationality would be Irish, however everyone else in the British Isles is British.

I don't know if I understood the original question, because English and Welsh aren't nationalities....

My cousin has an English Father and Welsh Mother and lives in Wales, she classes herself as Welsh

My aunt and uncle are both English, their first son was born in England and classes himself as English
Their second son (two years younger) was born after they moved to Porthmadog, and he definitely considers himself Welsh, even to the point of getting a dragon tattoo last time they completed the Grand Slam

Perhaps you should try and read the whole thread. I had earlier stated that we are British, where did I say anything about being an English citizen? Fail!

So, it actually proves what I said earlier, there are no Welsh (and therefore no English or Scottish either) citizens. Do keep up

It we're into splitting hairs, it's actually North and South America, or collectively "The Americas". There is no continent called America.

As for the USA, yes, it's the United States of America, because America is the country that the states are part of, not the continent. America is correct in the same way that Britain or Great Britain is correct.

Has anyone mentioned Islam yet?

Ok, I get it. Now I know why Irish are so stuck up. I thought they were English............errrr............British on their passport. Anyway, what about Welsh hating to be called English, and Scottish also get their goat bleating if anyone calls them English by mistake? They all look the same, anyway.

Err I did

Read my replies and point out where I said anything about being an Welsh citizen? Major fail I was merely showing you your statement was pointless.........
I was actually pointing out that Wales was a country not a principality!

Maybe you should read things properly

Couldn't agree more, but the same can be said if you called an English man Welsh by mistake...........
