Gotta love clarkson talking crap. RS500 is 10mph faster than an M5 but fails to mention thats only because the beemer is limited.

Racing against a non production Volvo which would cost £???k and even then was only 1 car length ahead of the CS400 on the drag race.

£50k is GTR money and I know which Id have

Yup, M5 de-restricted is touted at about 205mph IIRC. What a tool he is ! The Scoob is limited I believe too, but the de-limited Type 25 does about 175, so the Cossie must be similar. Didn't mention that, but then he probably wasn't interested enough to do his research

He set out not to like the Scooby right from the off, yet it was consistently faster than the Ford in every way. All he seemed to do was come up with excuses as to why the Ford wasn't as good, not how good the Scooby is.

But you have to modify the M5 to get past 155mph.

2 people buy a new car. One buys an M5, the other the RS500. The RS500 is faster than 155mph.

But that's second hand. New ones are £70k now.

£50k gets you mint a 996 Turbo S. I'd take that over a GT-R any day.

It's sat under it's cover in my garage as I type, waiting for me to get my finger out and renew it's MOT. As you can imagine I'm in no hurry at the moment, four wheels, a roof, and a heater being far more appealing

To be honest I've not thought about selling it, as I didn't think it was worth anything. I just keep it maintained for the fun of it, and use it to get to work

If you're serious, PM an offer, and I'll consider it

That is true but in reality who the hell would even go over 155mph even on a track ??? So its a pointless comparison really.

He's never liked the scoob hatches so has already made his mind up before he gets in.

Tbf the RS500 is the better car in terms of value for money at £35k vs £50k. If Ford had gone 4WD it would be a beast. Shame about the matt black styling and pimped out rear side windows that make it look like a van. Assume you can only get it in that colour?

Oh yeah I forgot that part. Who on gods earth would by either car to drive like that. Yes you may get lazy and caught out but youd quickly drop a cog and disappear.

Also, small point: what he was demonstrating was not turbo lag, but boost threshold: he'd gone up to a high gear out of the rpm range where the turbo was not girding its loins and then had to edge the car back into the powerband, which when you're in 5th at 60 miles per hour with a turbo that doesn't get into its stride until (apparently) about 3.5k is going to take a while!

No question that the scooby showed the ford a clean pair of heels which was seemingly ignored (remember when the hatch also beat the evo around the track too?) But 50k far too much for an Impreza (regardless of what anything thinks about value for money in light of the Cosworth parts). A Ford beater could and should be available at 35k max..... which i what Subaru already offer in the JDM market range!

Also, does anyone else think the Cosworth engine sounds a bit.....well, lazy given the forged internals etc... Should be up in the upper 400s in my opinion.

Agreed, from the off it was clear he was going to prefer the Ford over the Scoob. Although, I also agree, £50k is rather pricey for an Impreza!

Would love to see the Focus with AWD/4WD, I reckon it would be awesome. But I'm guessing Ford also think that £40k/£50k is too much for a Focus which is what it would be priced at as a guess if it had 4WD and 400BHP.

Yep, the RS500 only comes in Matt Black I know it's almost fashionable at the moment but personally I would have preferred it in normal gloss black.

If ford can sell an RS500 for £35k surely Subaru could get a 350bhp Prodrive P2 out for that price

The daft thing is most speed limited BMWs actually do 160mph on the clocks even though they are limited 155mph (5mph error I guess)...plenty of youtube vids support this.

As for the Polestar. This is what the RS500 SHOULD HAVE been, I've said that before and I'll say it again: https://www.scoobynet.com/showpost.p...1&postcount=11

Same engine, same chassis. Just one has a Haldex unit in the back (Focus has room to swing a cat under the rear axle).

It does seem a little strange, especially if the R&D has already been done and working in the Volvo.

I'd hazard a guess that the decisions were made by accountants, firm in the knowledge that Ford fans would by a 1957 Anglia if they tinted the windows and put an RS badge on it.

Well, the Ford KA did have a Anglia engine and then advertised it as being high-tech. So there is some truth in that

not one of them looked liked they cost what they did though:

35k for a focus with tinted windows.

50K for a scooby............. to joe average in the street, thats all they are.

as for top end speed- and where exactly does anyone every exceed 155 mph ???

50K buys a lot more car with a lot more style than any of that lot.
