Please do, Stu.

Possibilities need not be ruled out entirely, nor should the investigation seize. If wavelegths can travel from a radio to radio, perhaps such messages can also travel into the thin air to the receptor, and perhaps there is something called soul/spirit/atma that leaves the body behind (ref: Indian religious beliefs), and travels into another level?? As I said before, I grew up among psychics, paracommunicators, fortune tellers and horoscope readers around me, but found it difficult to believe any of that TBH. I do believe that such beliefs provide coping strategies e.g. in a difficult country like India, such beliefs keep people going, as there is no other choice but to keep going.

I went on a course about 10 years ago in Coventry We would all have a beer sesh in the evening as is the custom. All the people I was with I had never met before. There was this bloke who I got talking to who just happened to say out of the blue. "She will be all right" In surprise, I quizzed him as to who would be alright?? (I had lost my mother a month before) He then went on to say her name and various things about her that only I could know. This freaked me out to the point of tears. Still to this day, I have no idea how he could have know such things.
I am a complete athiest but this really did freak me out.

Ok,
First of all, let me clarify that whilst I am not a believer, I am open minded to most things and will not rubbish something simply because I do not understand it.

Those of you who know me will know I like a flutter, and as such I often arrange group meals with customers and installers at our biggest one in Blackpool, The Grovesnor, and get on well with head of events there as i bring a lot of business in.

A few weeks ago she emailed me asking If I fancied a cheap night out, table for 4, three course meal, £12.50 per head as she had a cancellation and wanted to fill the table. Only "problem" was, it was a spiritualist medium on that evening as the feature. Well, that didn't bother me one bit and I knew it wouldn't the missus, but i had nobody else to take, so she suggested her older sister and a friend of her mothers as they had not all met up for a year or so. They agreed, I booked it and the date was set.

Anyway, in usual Grovesnor style the meal was outstanding, and everyone else bar us 4 paid over £50 for the three courses, and its always worth every penny, as are most casino meals. The Medium arrives and the night begins...

This medium lady singles out various people, most with success, a couple with only little, but no outright failures you might say. She was very interesting and had one guy I had been chatting to at the bar earlier in tears after describing a shiny black Norton commando and asking why this spirit is showing it to her and saying thanks son, the shine is like new? Turns out he was restoring his dads bike after he passed away a year or so ago and just got teh tank back in all its shiny black glory that week. He was in tears this big fella, maybe 50yrs old and significantly bigger than me. It didn't look like an act and the info was certainly not something you could guess, but maybe he was a planted customer very good at putting on a crying act, who knows?

In the interlude, I was chatting to Hazel, the elderly lady who came with us who is, by my estimates around 70 years old. She was telling me that when she was 4yrs old, her mother died and her and her sister were put into care. Some 40 years later she met up with her sister who was put into care elsewhere in another town. Remember, this was in the 1940s.

Hazel had moved to Blackpool when she was 16 but these Sisters met up periodically and went hunting the graveyards of their old home town in Yorkshire, all to no avail. They eventually gave up and she was telling me they even visited a few mediums over the years, all to no avail. Well, having had a couple of beers I suggested she should ask this lady if there are any messages for her? So she did... but after the event.

It went like this:

Hazel:
Hello, thanks for tonight, it was very interesting.

Medium:
Your very welcome my darling.

Hazel:
I don't suppose you have any messages for me do you?

Medium:
Is there anything you would like to know specifically my darling?

Hazel:
Well, we have been looking for my mother for years and cant find her.

Medium:
your mother is in spirit isn't she darling? Does she have a strong Yorkshire accent? (Hazel absolutely does not... she has lived in Blackpool 50+ years)

Hazel:
I don't remember.

Medium:
Oh, sorry? yes, ok! Oh my darling, this is your mum, she is with me now. She says you girls are looking it the wrong place. She is in SELBY. Look in Selby Cemetary and you will find what your looking for.

Hazel:
SELBY?

Medium:
I don't know why Selby my darling, but thats what you mum is saying. She says your girls are looking in the wrong town. look in Selby. Does that mean anything to anyone else? (looking at us, presuming we are her kids i guess)

Hazel:
[In real tears now]
Its ok, thank you, I will do that.
[She sits down, obviously quite shook up]

Medium:
I am sorry my darling, i didn't want to upset you, can somebody get you a drink?

So, we take her card, thank her and end our time in the restaurant and move downstairs into the casino bar and playing areas, and Hazel starts to re-tell the rest of the tale that we didn't know. In fact, I dare say only her sister, who still lives in Yorkshire, is the other living person on this earth that knows this story.

They lived in a small town in Yorkshire that is just north of a place called Selby. All funerals to their knowledge where conducted in a town to the north of theirs (I forget its name) and that is where they had been searching. Selby, is slightly south of their home town. It is entirely possible her mother is actually buried there!

The facts:
  • I invited that lady by chance that night.
  • I suggested she ask for info. not her.
  • She does not have a Yorkshire accent and did not mention Yorkshire or in fact any place on earth.
  • The medium stated factually a town that is likely to be correct tahts hours form here... if you wanted to guess, you would guess locally.
Now, thats it, that is all we have, bar one more piece of the puzzle...

I told hazel that i will personally take her to Selby and help her and her sister search. She agreed and then, next day, spent all day on phone with her excited sister to births deaths & marriages departments of her home and neighbouring towns. They discovered that even though there are no records available for that time period, one of the older guys there confirmed that his parents, from her home town, are indeed buried in SELBY and that as far as he knows, for some reason they used to farm some burials out to Selby every now and then, but he did not know why...

The mystery continues.
As soon as i get back from Selby i will let you know the outcome.

No it is not Stu, it is slightly different in your case..

In normal paid for events a vast percentage of attendees have lost someone close, usually but not always recently.

What the mediums do is employ a team of researchers to go through obituaries and local papers etc so they are armed with lots of background information and can appear to have extraordinary gifts.

I know some of the researchers also call the attendees first on the pretext that they may have a special message for them at the event.. and dig some more.

Your case is slightly different, not sure but they may have had people eavesdropping during the interlude on your conversation with Hazel

The table for 4 was booked in my company name. Motorsport Developments. It was also paid for on my company card.

The lady in question has no connection with me or my business in any way shape or form. Also, as stated in the post, not even me or my missus knew the full story until AFTER the message was given, so that rules out any conversation being overheard.

As for the buriel thing being common knowledge, even if it was, how would she know that she was from there, let alone her mother that died 60+ years ago? We are in Blackpool, hundreds of miles away.

I agree. I have always thought that Google was mos likely responsible for 99% of messages from the dead. LOL

As stated above, none of us knew where she was from prior to the message being relayed.

Got to be honest but I'm not 100% sure if its cobblers or if there is something in it.

My wife is really into this sort of thing and has cards read and does do a version of cards for people.

I had mine read by tarrot card reader and I have to say I wasn't completely impressed. Lots of "it will all be alright in 12 months time" - what will be alright and anything can happen in 12 months. And telling me to stop smoking - well anyone can say that and she even said it to someone who doesn't smoke. She is however, quite well regarded so perhaps I just wasn't prepared to take it in.

She did say to me wife I would lose my office keys and within the next week I did.

My wife is also a bit sensitive to something similar to what Frosticles mentions. Sometimes when we are out you can see she wants to say something to someone - sometimes people she doesn't even know and you can see her trying to decide what to say. She's had neighbours in tears after holding bits of old jewellery. She also believes theres a young boy in our daughters room - he's there and unhappy and won't hurt her or us and she thinks he wasn't actually abused as such - just unhappy.

She won't sleep in there and won't stand with her back to the door. Our daughter struggles to sleep at night in her room but I'm not sure if thats because of this lad or because she's picked up on the vibe from the wife.

I would agree completely - BUT - the wife has come out with things that she shouldn't be able to know about people she hardly knows.

None whatsoever, nothings been proven until I see a headstone with this ladys name on it. However, I am partial to a little Jennifer Love Hewitt.

I'm afraid there has yet to be any spiritualist that has stood up to the test of science. I'm pretty convinced that basic research and cold reading can account for pretty much any case. What you have is a very vulnerable population holding on to hope of being able to contact loved ones that have passed being exploited by people who are outright fraudsters or just want to believe so badly themselves that they're convinced they have a "faculty"

As always, we stand to be corrected though!

Cool

For anyone that gives this stuff even the slightest bit of credence, who have seen things at show that they could not have possibly faked, just go and see Derren Brown's live show.

He states unequivocally that he has no powers, but he does things in his show that are truly astounding. As, if not more, than anything mentioned in this thread or anywhere else for that matter.

Before I say anything, im kind of 50/50 on things like this but after the following Im more inclined to beleave.

My feonsay and her sisters and brother lost there mum back in October last year and as with most unexpected deaths there were things they wished they had said and so many things they wanted to know.

One of my feonsays sisters who lives in Australia went to a Spiritualist Medium last week in Aus. She had to book her session but used her husbands sir name as to remove any kind of fixing by the Medium. The sister recorded the hour long session of which we all listened to a couple of days later. Some of the things the Medium came out with she would not have guessed or found on the web. We were all shocked in things the Medium was saying, like family name, things there mother liked, did, what she looked like etc even what happened at the hospital just before she passed away.

As I said at the beginning im more inclined to beleave now more then ever.

We have had this on hear before and I made the same comment last time. Darren Brown did a show on mediums. He had an audience and sold tickets for this as if he was a medium. The people who took part said the was the best one they had ever seen and very accurate. He did look the part when he was doing it, as if he could see into the future or contact the dead or whatever. At the end of the show he informed and apologised to them all saying it was all an act. All information obtained by using his skills as a con man, reading reactions or research. People also forget the things mediums get wrong and only remember the stuff they get correct.
