I disagree, I have no idea what "per pound" is and whether it's a good price or not. 400g of mince is what I would use in Spag Bol (which we've given up on because it's too calorific.)

All I want to know is how much is a chicken breast? Average size and weight, not bothered if mini-fillet is on or not cos it has that horrible veiny thing running through it which is hard to get rid of!

Boneless chicken fillets with the skin off are £6.56kg or £2.98lb!
Depending on the size of the bird, roughly 200g or 80z each.

Totally disagree with the Frozen veg comments about it tasting better, the stuff is foul and tasteless, fresh veg steamed everytime, tastier and healthier in my book.

Pork is a very good buy at the moment, Belly and Loin

Another vote for the slow cooker for full flavour meals

Also in agreement with the junk food comments, it's so much cheaper than proper food sadly and people buy it not through choice but through necessity a lot of the time.

As much as I dislike the French I think they get it right with regards to affordable fresh food, you can see why their Farmers are so powerful and have had the EU bent over the dinner table for years.

Nice sausie Stuart

my local butcher much cheaper than supermaket, plus cuts off the fat BEFORE weighing it!

asked tesco to do that, told no chnace so im apying for fat at the same price as ribeye, and it just goes in bin.

i try buy my eggs straight from any farm advertisng them if im driving past. always cheaper

supermarket meat is truly sh*t imo,

i try eat around 400g of protein per day, usuaully a bit uner that -but ive eaten enough from tescos to realise its over priced and p*sh quality

some of my prices

lean mince-£1.68lb
braising steak-£2.98lb
pork chops-£2.48lb
pork steaks-£2.98lb
10 flavours of sausage-£1.98lb
lamb chops-£7.98lb
rump steak-£3.48lb
ribeye steak-£7.98lb
rib on the bone-£4.00lb

All the beef is aged and born and bred in the uk
In my opinion I think thats the key factor - aging the meat.

That bright red looking shyte that you buy in Tesco's etc can never compete against a proper butcher.
Next time you in a supermarket - look carefully around the lighting/packaging at the meat bit.

Plus - if you have a local butcher you'll eventually become friendly and he'll do "value added" stuff for you with diffferent cuts etc
My butcher has de-boned a lambs legs for me in the past for example.
Turkey crowns etc.

I wouldn't dream of getting any meat from a supermarket.
My local butcher is the business. Have got to know him so well, I never pay more than £10 for my Sunday roast. It is always beautiful meat and he is never stingy with the portions
Oh and his sausage is to die for. No fat comes out of it at all. Supermarket sausage, you have to drain the tin a couple of times to get rid of the oil. Yuck

And one of the nicest things of all is the fillet steak.
Now for example - wife used to buy these in M&S, and those 21 day matured steaks are very nice indeed

But at my local butchers, he'll cut them to what ever size I ask
I can have a bigger steak, whereas wifey has a small steak - so she doesn't get fat of course
And he'll trim the steaks up too

Get down to your local butcher man!

We'll usually spend £30 to £50 per week at the supermarket (for two of us). We always plan the meals for the week before shopping - avoids most impluse buys or having to get meals/bits from Tesco Express type places which are more expensive.

There's very little food waste in our house

Another vote for slow cookers - 30 minutes or so prep' in the morning gives a pretty cheap, quick and very tasty tea.

Everything is going up significantly, if you do the shopping you will soon realise it.

Fish is pretty expensive too down this way where we are spoiled for it but cheaper than meat and healthier too.
