Newbie, which handles better, blob or classic ?
Could you get the two best online prices and then "play" them on each other, i.e. usual business patter. See who can offer the best deal overall. I usually make it habitual to call an insurer after an online quote and see if they can improve over the phone. More so for you if you have as much driving experience as you say.
Have you also looked to see where your postcode is in the insurance ratings??

Think the above link is upto date.

I went out and bought a large secure shed which is alarmed etc so they now class it as garaged, even though the premium didn't come down.
Funny thing is though there are some postcodes on there that are 10-15 miles away from me that are considered a lower risk and they are sh*tholes
Btw with your budget I'd go for a bugeye as said previous
How are you going to afford to run it if before you have even bought it you have a minimal budget which wont buy you much. I'm just being real mate. Maybe save another few grand and buy the Scooby you really want!
If you insure a car in your own name, you can drive another car on DOC (driving other cars extension) BUT, once you leave the car parked up it is then uninsured, you need to bear this in mind. (if you were willing to lie say it was stolen and say that the PH was the last person to drive it then that would get you out of the stink)
Also if you are married or live with a partner/spouse, its worthwhile checking that you can actually use DOC to drive the other car in your household. Some companies do not allow this, because it is abusing the DOC extension, which, is only suppose to be in emergencies anyway. Its similar to the fact that you couldn't use DOC for other cars that you own in your name.
If you are married it does not matter if the husband or the wife insures the car, if you are a young driver and you insure the car in your Mum or Dad's name then you are an idiot. (and the insurer WILL figure this out, its in their financial interest to do so)
sorry went off the point of the thread. I own a classic and the handling is awesome, but have never driven a blob, so can't really compare the 2 unfortunately

trouble is, theres nothing on documents relating to fronted risk policies, just the surprise that comes with a loss adjuster or engineer going out to visit a "40 yr old Mother's Corsa", complete with the kids name on the private plate, CDs such as "the wanted" in the glovebox, a nurburgring sticker on the boot, etc etc

Well i have decided that i am not prepared to pay out all that money just to be able to go fast ! So i am going to do my motor bike test and get a fast bike instead, £30 road tax, £400 insurance, and 80mpg, and i will be able to go faster than any scooby !
Good luck with the shopping trips, snow, giving folks a lift etc!
There is a 'Drag Race' thread on here, and other events up and coming all year round, and very few if any will be cancelled due to poor weather, I mean take the last Scoobyshootout for instance. It was ridiculous wet but everyone still had fun... http://www.youtube.com/results?searc...tout+2010&aq=f Tell me you can have the same fun whilst sat on a bike......
Anyway Im not trying to sway your opinion as this is probably a financial decision maker.... Good luck what ever you choose.
Rob
My mates bike has a quoted 0-60 of 4 secs, and my WR1 is quoted as 4.25. however, my mate doesn't reckon he can get anywhere near 4 secs, because the one time he tried a really fast launch, he nearly binned it, whereas I reckon I could get pretty close to 4.25 secs in the WR1. and mine is just the standard 315bhp. there are many more scooby's out there quicker than mine.
And thats just in a straight line. wait 'til you get to a corner...

Aren't there restrictions on the CC of the bike you can drive after passing your test?
No avoiding paying when it comes to performance motoring: you play you pay!
If you do get a bike please be careful, we have enough organ donors, er I mean, young male bikers in casualty as it is!!

I assume you are a trader?
Ref the insurance questions, lots of people insure the car under the wifes name with themselves as a named driver thinking it's cheaper, most of the time it doesn't make a difference.
There is a big problem doing that though.... you need to make sure the marriage lasts!!!
We get lots of calls where the bloke is trying to insure a car with no NCB, as they've split up and all the NCB is under the wifes name.
Most insurers don't care too much if the policy is under the wife or husbands name, as it is pretty much the same price anyway. Not ideal though.
The problem happens when the son/daughter is the named driver under the parents name.... that's called fronting.
If you have a claim and the insurers suspect the son/daughter is the main user then be prepared for a battle. I've even heard of insurers inverviewing neighbours to see who they see using the car, as a way of finding out who the main user is.
