upgraded to the HTC Desire HD from a BB 8900..... what a mistake
. Luckily I had 7 days to try it out - the battery life is pants!
Google'd it and found loads of posts on what to turn off to improve ya battery life......if i wanted an expensive calculator (24 month contact) I would have done just that.
Posted back to T-mobile with a big NO THANK YOU!.....
I've reverted back to my trusty 8900 for the moment and toying with the Blackberry 9780 or waiting till June for an IPhone 5

Blackberry have been shockingly bad at implementing the touch screen phones: The storm really wasn't good and the touch isn't much better.
I'm a recent android convert. I had an iPhone (really just used as a media player with anywhere internet), my wife has an iPhone. I bought a Samsung Galaxy S to play with and it was good enough to replace my Blackberry for work email. The iPhone couldn't quite get there (where is that 'new mail' icon? WHERE? How difficult can it be to put a little envelope in the top bar?).
The applications on the iPhone are much more professional than those on Android, although the Android ones are arguably more useful to 'play' with the phone as they have no restrictions.
Anyway, to the original question, you should wait until the iPhone 5 as I'm sure it'll have lots of new features. The iPhone 4 wasn't much of an improvement over the 3GS so hopefully in this refresh they will go all out to change the game again.
Edit: DARMS: The battery life on all smartphones suck.
