quick example, the first **** insurance imobiliser to "get past" that you ran a live feed from the battery to the centre wire on the coil pack and the car would then start

the old cobra alarm back in the 80's you would use smash the indicator bulb and use foil from a kit kat wrapper and blow the fuse that was also the live feed for the cobra alarm hence we now have battery back up

my cossie was nicked on a sunday afternoon with half the engine sitting behind the sofa in my front room,,,,,,,, as said if they want it they get it

best thing to use is a garage or driveway with a big **** off post in the floor that pulls up out of the ground like dealerships have

or decent insurance and just accept it as a poss that can happen same as someone driving into you

Yes, i heard of some pikies that just rammed up behind an escos so that the spec lifts would pass under the wheels, lift it of the ground and off they drive.
All this happend in broad daylight while neigbours watched as they was told by the pikies that they were from a garge and were collecting the car to do some work and had to do it this way as there was a problem with the car

Certainly some food for thought here. I do keep the keys hidden and the house is secure.
I know we cannot stop the thieving buggers but if i can deter a theft then alls good and well.

When ever parked in public, I use the interactive (sim) Cat 1 system (MetaSat) to immobilise, in conjunction with a full steering wheel disclock!

I don't know you Bridgend people trying to get the inside line on how members protect their cars. Has it given you enough hints for your next night time acquisition trip?

Seriously though if the thieving scum are that determined to take your car then there is very little that can be done. If they are going to break into your house then you may as well make the keys easily accessible so that they don't trash the place or even go after the occupants with baseball bats either.

I know we all want to protect our cars but they are only lumps of metal at the end of the day...

Big Steel post on the end of the drive and Blackjax 5 antihijack. As has already been said they usually break in and take the keys and having had this happen I was amazed how crap the house door locks were. You can get snap safe they break but remain in the door so holding the ***** up.

Really make it look difficult they will try elswhere ... my opinion for what its worth.

The other problem is if like mine which was written off 15 mins after leaving my house, the insurance then sky rockets for the next few years

big post at the end of driveway works well... if you have a driveway, which i don't. The other way to stop your car being nicked is join the armed forces, live on base with armed guards and dog patrols and CCTV, and then its pretty safe AND you cheaper insurance ;-)

guys, your living in a dream world if you think disc locks etc work. ok they may deter some, but if your car catchs there eye, they will take it.

i have watched someone (on camera) take a sprinter van, with disc lock etc, brand new, with alarm etc, within 30seconds.

also, storys of people just DRAGGING cars up onto trailers is becoming more comman. i see and hear it all the time, so much so im installing electric posts at my house, due to the high crime rate, and the desirablity of impreza's these days.

just do what you can, trackers are good, only if you notice the cars gone in time, otherwise its guna be found and removed.

The ******* nowadays dont give a fack about alarms, if they want it they will come get the keys plain n simple.

Mines got tracker cat 1 and neighbour parks behind it on a 1 track street, Unless they do 2 houses it aint moving, but if they want it they will LOL

all above put them off agreed but any of the above, Once in ya house are useless, they just have big ***** now,

if they want it they will get it no matter what, when i was on the RS owners club it was becoming more common that cars are just hooked up on trailors and taken no matter what security they have.

a Friend of mine recently sold his MK1 Focus RS, 3 days later someone broke into his garage to find it empty luckily.

This thread made me laugh somewhat.

Why oh why on a public forum say what you have in the way or security, it only takes someone to go "i like the look of that, i want it!" and its gone from your beloved motor which we have spent hard earn money on.

Unfortunate as it maybe you just cant rely on security alone but preventing theft is all we can do ie with the use of cctv, cat1 alarms, removing parts etc it makes it a dam sight harder for the little tosspot down the road to steal.

I have opted for a 7 Stone Doberman with a stinking attitude, thats the house sorted. As for the car, I pay insurance to take the worry away, if it goes, as previously stated i dont want it back...

The recommendations some have made here about overt security have been very helpfull to me and hardly helpfull to any thieving ******.
The covert methods sent to me privatly have been helpfull in other ways.
I also stated in the OP that I was not expecting it to turn this into a "how to steal a scooby" thread

As I mentioned before I'm not trying nievely to stop a theft but to make the job as difficult as possible,,,thus the thread has been of help to me

thats a really good idea! this opens quite a few possibilities to many more locking devices heavy dutey chains and smash proof locks,i think a normal thief is gona look at it and say forget it cant be bothered,front seat forward chained to wheel, plus mab a 4tress bar on wheel. then if he does get the seat back ! stick a trigger switch attached to a small bomb! if your asleep im sure that will wake u up!! take that sucker ! ok so the car aint to good - but u certainly have made a strong point,plus it will prob make the news to.

Magnetic Reed Switch is a good one.

Simply put the switch in line on a wire such as the fuel pump 12v supply.

Place the Reed Switch behind a piece of the interior, put the magnet in place and the circuit closes. Remove magnet and circuit is open.

The good thing about this is that the switch can be hidden virtually anywhere in the car, no thief, even if he has the keys, will be able to find the switch easily, unless he starts ripping the interior apart.

I have used this on every car I have ever owned since reading about it.

You can use a variety of wires, the wire which give 12v to the ECU is a good one, as mentioned the fuel pump also a good one.

Guys all these theft prevention " systems" you have in place are no match for a proffessional car theif. Take land rovers for example, not disco's the defenders. How many do you reckon are stolen? MANY and not by simply starting them and driving off, i knew a lad on a 4x4 forum who had all the "systems" you can have and 2 drive way posts. What did the thief do??? brought along a Hi-Hab and lifted it straight out the garden !!!!!! Gypo's have these wagons by the doesens so maybe you should look at maybe a ground spike you can chain your towing eyes to the ground from the side of the car facing your house in the hopes they dont see it ???

I watched a brand new stolen merc get recovered by the Police a few days ago. The vehicle was locked and secure, the recoverey just dragged it onto a flat bed with the alarm sounding.

I was looking at other peoples windows and no one bat an eye lid at all, it could have been anyone dragging it away.

As already stated, most cases now are people breaking into houses for the keys. I have heard several stories about ******* breaking into houses and not taking anything at all expect car keys........ and of course the car.
Infact I am lead to believe that most burglaries these days are just that.

My advice is to do what you can (alarm, disklock, drive posts), the average car theif will not bother with all that and look for another. However if they do really want it they will find away.

And regarding Europrofile locks, I would urge anyone who has them to change them to snap proof or hardened whenever possible.

If i sound like i know a little bit about it I do work in crime prevention

You get what you pay for really,

All mechanical switches or blocks are very cheap and can turn away any unprofessional thief that just wanted to go for a joyride and as long as you dont leave your car standing for dozens of hours unattended it should be safe, otherwise if a thief has enough time and he wants your car he will find a way to either bypass the switches or simply tow the car away.

However, if you do keep your car on the street at night you cant go wrong with a tracker.

Know of a few trackers that require a special combination to be punched in after you open the car ( otherwise the car doesnt start ) - if the code is not entered within 1 minute of entering the car or the car starts moving without receiving the punched in code ( a thief managed to bypass the immobilizer ) a signal is sent to tracker company that the car is being stolen and after a chat to the owner they dispatch a police unit. Some trackers also have a remotely operated cut-out switch hidden somewhere else in the car so that the tracker company can shut the car down for the police as soon as they are near to avoid persuits.

Also, most trackers now come with anti-lift security system, if it senses any car movement (vertical or horizontal) they call the owner and notify the police. And no, the signal cant be scrambled or blocked. Those systems arent cheap but if you value your car thats the one i'd go for.

Yes you are right about the new tracker systems having built in movement sensors. I also think a more visible deterrent like a lock disk, will also help.
